Plato, The Lysis - Friendship and Valuation - Sadler's Lectures
This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient philosopher Plato's dialogue, the Lysis, focused on the nature of love and friendship This lecture focuses specifically on the portion of the text right after Socrates and his interlocutors seem have reached some sort of solid understanding of friendship, namely that it is between the good and the neutral on account of the bad. Socrates then sees a complication in this, and begins to explore this "on account of" or "because" in terms of things or people that we value for their own sake, and those that we value instrumentally.
