Real Life Real Crime | Shawn Grate Part 1: Hiding in Plain Sight

In her first-ever long-form Real Life Real Crime deep dive, Cyndi Overton examines the life and crimes of serial killer Shawn Grate. Beginning in Marion, Ohio, Cyndi traces Grate's childhood, early warning signs, and escalating violence before introducing the women whose lives were stolen by a predator hiding in plain sight. This episode focuses on the stories of Dana Lowry, Rebecca Leicy, Candace Cunningham, Elizabeth Griffith, and Stacy Stanley—women who deserve to be remembered for how they lived, not simply for how they died. As investigators struggle to connect disappearances and murders across Ohio, Shawn Grate continues operating undetected. But that is about to change. Part 1 sets the stage for the survivor whose whispered 911 call would ultimately bring a serial killer's reign of terror to an end.
