I Heard ‘Hey Kiddo’—and Knew I Wasn’t Alone | Real Ghost Stories

She thought the chance to say goodbye was lost forever.

Eight years after her grandfather Henry passed suddenly from a stroke, a quiet rainy afternoon in her small brick home became the moment she’d been waiting for. Alone in his old recliner — the only piece of him she kept — she drifted off for what felt like seconds, only to open her eyes and see him standing there.

The smell of pipe tobacco. The plaid flannel shirt. The heavy work boots. And the words she hadn’t heard since she was nineteen: “Hey, kiddo.”

And when her little boy later spoke of “the man with the hat” who made him laugh in his dreams, she couldn’t help but believe Henry had found a way to reach them both.

This unforgettable story explores the love that lingers long after death and the visit that gave a grieving granddaughter the goodbye she thought she’d never have.
