Über 200 Jahre durfte kaum ein Ausländer Japan betreten. Doch Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts erzwangen die Westmächte die Öffnung. Meiji-Zeit, "Zeit der erleuchteten Regierung", wird diese Epoche genannt. (BR 2016)
