Hawsons Iron's Tom Revy: Product quality "in the top 1 or 2%" as NPV hits A$1.87bn

Hawsons Iron Ltd (ASX:HIO) managing director Tom Revy spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the Hawsons Iron Project, its strengthened economics and the role its proposed premium high-grade magnetite concentrate could play in the transition towards lower-carbon steelmaking. Revy explained that Hawsons Iron is focused on developing its 100%-owned project, targeting a magnetite concentrate grading around 69.3% iron, with high grades and low impurities making the product particularly relevant to downstream processing and electric arc furnace steelmaking. "The product that we produce is in the top 1 or 2%," he said. The interview also covers recent optimisation work that lifted the project's pre-tax NPV to A$1.87 billion, with Revy saying replacing the proposed waste-material trucking fleet with a conveying and stacking system added around A$500 million to the figure. Hawsons Iron is continuing metallurgical and process testwork, including investigations into potential hematite recovery as a by-product, while assessing further opportunities to add value before moving into final feasibility. Final feasibility work is set to begin early next year, expected to take around 18 months and include infill, sterilisation and technical drilling ahead of final engineering and costing. Revy also highlighted the project's proximity to Broken Hill and existing infrastructure, along with its relatively low expected power consumption compared with peers, as key parts of the investment case.
