BREAKING: Pavin Smith DFA'd by D-backs After Splitting Series with Padres

From PHNX Arizona Diamondbacks Podcast ALLCITY Network, PHNX Sports

After going live, breaking news dropped as Nick Piecoro of AZ Central reported that the Arizona Diamondbacks have designated first baseman Pavin Smith for assignment. We react to the move, discuss why the D-backs decided now was the time to part ways with Smith, and what it says about the organization's urgency to win now. Meanwhile, the Snakes got exactly what they needed from Merrill Kelly, as the veteran turned in a dominant seven-inning gem to lead Arizona to a win over the San Diego Padres and earn a split of the four-game series. We break down Kelly's stellar outing, Nolan Arenado continuing to mash at Petco Park with another home run, and Paul Sewald slamming the door with a shutdown save in the ninth inning. Plus, we look ahead to a massive weekend showdown with the Los Angeles Dodgers, including Friday's marquee pitching matchup between Eduardo Rodriguez and Shohei Ohtani, and discuss what the Diamondbacks need to do to keep the momentum rolling against their NL West rivals.
