Inside The Maxx: Homeless Hero, Dream Worlds & Serial Killers

MTV aired a cartoon about a schizophrenic homeless superhero in 1995 and it was way deeper than anyone realized.

This episode dives deep into the pilot episode of The Maxx, Sam Keith's surrealist 1995 MTV animated series, breaking down its esoteric dream-world mythology, anti-authority symbolism, and the Aboriginal 'dreamtime' consciousness hidden inside a story about a hulking homeless man and a freelance social worker. From the conspiratorial undercurrent running through all 90s cartoons to the Blade Runner-style identity interrogations buried in the script, this episode unpacks why The Maxx was decades ahead of its time and criminally overlooked. If you've ever felt like 90s animation was quietly trying to tell you something, this is the episode that proves it.
