The Neuroscientist Who Found the Soul with Dr. Marjorie Woollacott

What if your brain doesn't create consciousness, but actually limits how much of reality you can perceive? In this fascinating episode of Next Level Soul, neuroscientist and author Dr. Marjorie Woollacott shares how a profound meditation experience transformed her understanding of the mind, the soul, and the nature of existence. Once a committed scientific materialist, Marjorie spent decades researching the brain before beginning to investigate extraordinary experiences that challenged her assumptions. We explore the science of meditation, the placebo effect, neural filters, reincarnation research, near-death experiences, and the possibility that consciousness may be fundamental to the universe rather than simply a product of the physical brain.

Our conversation goes even deeper as Dr. Woollacott discusses her investigations into reported telepathic experiences involving nonspeaking autistic individuals, the fascinating case of a physician who described a near-death experience during childbirth, and the similarities and differences between NDEs across cultures. We also explore why the soul might choose physical embodiment, whether consciousness exists throughout nature, and how meditation can transform our relationship with fear, suffering, and everyday life. Drawing on her book Infinite Awareness: The Awakening of a Scientific Mind, Marjorie invites us to examine the boundaries of conventional scientific thinking while remaining curious about what we have yet to understand. This conversation is an exploration of science, spirituality, and the extraordinary mystery of what it means to be conscious.
