A decade of coastal litigation has driven away investments and cost Louisiana energy jobs

The Pelican Institute released a new economic impact report, “How Coastal Lawsuit Abuse Undermined Louisiana’s Economy,” showing how a decade of coastal litigation has driven away investment, reduced production, and cost Louisiana energy jobs, wages, and royalty revenues. Authored by Dr. Gavin Roberts (Weber State University), the study updates a 2019 analysis and uses comparative trend modeling to document what it calls “a structural collapse” in offshore energy investment—harm that is measurable, structural, and reversible. Melissa Landry, Vice President & Director of the Pelican Institute's Center for Energy Policy, and Gavin Roberts, Ph.D., Senior Fellow at the Pelican Institute for Public Policy, join Newell to discuss the report.
