Red broth? Yeah, it's red is it but what is the base of it? 4:58 Is it just like the manos, right? Is it tomato base? 5:01 So it's more as opposed to like the typical England clam chowder. I 5:06 Love I've had some good Manhattan clam chowder. So I mean both are delicious. I love clam chowder, but Manhattan 5:12 I don't know something about it. It's so tasty. I disagree 5:16 No, I want some clam chowder 5:19 We don't have good clam chowder and Medina. We don't 5:23 This might surprise some of you. 5:25 We do not have great clam chowder in Medina, Ohio. 5:29 And even I draw the line 5:31 at the Campbell's Chunky Soup clam chowder. 5:34 It is inedible. 5:36 That's not good. 5:37 No. 5:37 Have you tried it? 5:38 Or are you just- 5:39 I think I have actually. 5:40 It is so bad. 5:41 I've never tried it. 5:42 I took like two bites and I started like, 5:45 I had it throwed away. 5:45 That's absurd. 5:47 I DNF'd that can, it was no bueno. 5:49 Now, if they would have made Manhattan, 5:50 and I bet it would have been delicious. 5:52 See, I went to a clam bake years ago 5:56 and got very intoxicated after eating 6:00 many bowls of Manhattan clam chowder 6:03 and was vomiting out the car on my way home 6:06 as my wife was driving. 6:09 And in the morning there was a spray 6:10 of dried red Manhattan clam chowder 6:14 all the way back of my car. 6:16 God damn, it's not pleasant. 6:18 That's an ugly thing to throw up. 6:19 Oh, that's gonna look like a horror movie. 6:21 That's great. 6:22 All right. 6:23 I will tell you, I'm also gonna be on Martha's Vineyard 6:26 for a day, so maybe I will go down to Chep Aquitic. 6:29 Maybe I'll V-Log that. 6:30 Erie, Erie, I'm on the stock. 6:34 Now we're talking. 6:35 You can go get yourself a Ted Kennedy mask. 6:37 Put on a nice suit. 6:39 Get yourself drenched in water. 6:41 Like it looks like you just climbed out. 6:43 Erie, Erie, very hard to drive around here. 6:46 Yeah. 6:48 I almost fell in the water. 6:50 I want that over the lobster roll. 6:54 I'm not the tech Kennedy video. 6:58 All right. Well, speaking of death. 7:00 This is a heavy hitter episode. 7:03 Yeah. 7:04 I was just Googling for some stuff to. 7:07 We haven't done a like a big two parter, 7:10 three parter potentially in a long time. 7:12 So when you gave us the subject, 7:13 you you you gave us the heads up. 7:15 like this will might be a two or three parter. 7:17 I just didn't realize the entire part one 7:19 will be death, after death, after death, after death. 7:21 There's a lot of death. 7:22 And then it's a, we'll see you next week. 7:27 Yvonne Weber was born on January 29th, 1959 7:31 in Carson City, Nevada. 7:32 And she grew up in Santa Rosa, California 7:35 with her mom Sheila, her stepdad, David Harrington 7:38 and her older brother Mark. 7:40 Santa Rosa is the biggest city in Sonoma County 7:43 about an hour north of San Francisco. 7:45 So in 1972, it had somewhere around 50,000 people. 7:49 Nowadays, it's wine country, 7:51 but back then it was a lot of farmland. 7:55 They've ever been to wine country? 7:57 I've never been up there. 7:59 I always wanted to go do a wine tour up there. 8:00 I think it'd be a lot of fun. 8:01 No, where's Monterey? 8:03 I've been there. 8:04 I don't think that's quite as north as wine country. 8:07 I'm not sure. 8:08 I don't know what the wine country line is. 8:11 Oh, Sonoma County up there. 8:12 Yeah. 8:13 I just don't know exactly, you know, I'm not as familiar only been out there once and I was like a young kid 8:19 Monterey looks nice. I remember being very nice 8:24 Monterey is 8:26 Just 8:31 It's south of San Francisco, so okay down south of there. So I know I've never been to wine country 8:37 Me neither. No, well, we'll do a guy's trip. We should I'd be fine wine country 8:43 I'm sure they have some weed out there, right? 8:45 They probably grow good weed. 8:46 The whole state's weed, absolutely. 8:47 I'd be just fine to help. 8:49 I'm sure there's a sweet, fancy dispensary out there. 8:52 You could do vlogs in front of all the dispensaries, 8:54 ranking them. 8:55 Dave and Alby, we'll have red lips and tongues 8:57 talking about the wine inside. 9:00 Did you ever see the movie Sideways with Paul Giamatti 9:02 when they were up there? 9:03 He's in like Merlot. 9:04 No, fuck it, Merlot. 9:05 I've seen the clip a hundred times. 9:08 Did you see Merlot sales dropped 9:10 after the release of that movie? 9:11 That's makes sense. Yeah. That's a good movie. Paul Giamatti is so good. He's the best 9:18 Yvonne's best friend at Herbert Slater Jr. Hyde was Maureen Sterling 9:22 Maureen was born in Santa Rosa on February 18th 1959 three weeks after Yvonne 9:27 But she was taller and a lot more sure of herself 9:30 People said that she seemed like the older of the two when they were together 9:35 her. Her dad Larry died on a water skiing accident in August of 1958, a few months before 9:41 she was born. He was 23 at the time. So her mom Arlene raised Maureen and her older sister 9:48 Teresa on her own. On Friday, February 4, 1972, Maureen's mom Arlene dropped the girls 9:56 off at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena around 7.30 at night. Yvonne had just turned 13 10:03 And marine was two weeks away from it the rank belonged to Charles Schultz the guy who drew peanuts 10:10 So I never thought we'd have to bring him up. There you go. How about that? 10:14 You just got famous drawing pictures of peanuts 10:18 Odd but okay. This is a dark rose. Some people make money drawing cans of soup 10:25 I'll stick to literature 10:27 Hi, bro. I 10:33 Oh, you went on your rant last time about him. 10:36 Garbage. 10:40 So Charles Schultz, he moved to Santa Rosa 10:43 and built this place in 1969 10:45 and everybody called it Snoopy's home ice. 10:48 Oh, Snoopy peanuts. 10:55 For kids in town, it was one of the only places 10:57 to go on a Friday night. 10:58 And the plan was Arlene would come back 11:00 at 11 to pick them up. 11:02 Marine had on jeans and a red zip-up hoodie over a purple shirt and Yvonne had 11:07 on jeans and a black velvet coat. They both had on brown suede shoes. Around 11:12 nine, Marine and Yvonne were seen hitchhiking on Gernville Road on the 11:17 northwest side of town not far from the ring and some of the reports say 11:22 that specifically they got into a car like the type of a vehicle was a car. 11:27 or the two of them had hitchhiked before. 11:30 We don't know whose car it was or where they were headed. 11:33 Can you imagine hitchhiking when you're 12 years old? 11:36 No, that is insane. 11:37 12. 11:38 People didn't give a fuck in the 70s. 11:40 I know, it's crazy. 11:43 I can't even- 11:44 I can't even, 12-year-old daughter's hitchhiking. 11:46 Just getting in cars with strangers. 11:49 The whole idea is insanity. 11:53 I wouldn't even talk to adults 11:55 until like I got into like high school. 11:58 Like I was just always intimidated and shy. 12:01 I have a hitchhiker story. 12:03 I'll have to tell it to you guys off air though. 12:05 Yeah. 12:05 Oh, nice. 12:07 Uh-oh. 12:07 It's an off air story though. 12:09 Ooh, that's great. 12:10 We just made every listener tell us. 12:12 We're story cucking them. 12:15 They don't get to be included in this. 12:16 Usually I don't have to be too private, 12:18 but that's what I do. 12:20 I love that. 12:21 There goes my boner. 12:22 Now, it'll come back when he tells the story. 12:27 When Arlene came back at 11, they weren't there. 12:30 They went straight through the rink looking for them and got ahold of Yvonne's mom, Sheila, 12:36 and they hadn't gone home. 12:38 After she tried their friends, she reported them missing. 12:41 Santa Rosa police took the case, and from pretty early on, they treated Marine and 12:47 Yvonne as runaways. 12:49 There were rumors that the girl had gone to meet friends at a bowling alley. 12:53 One of their school friends talked about how they might have hitched a ride to go meet 12:57 a man who lived on the Russian River, which is a river that runs through the west end 13:02 of the county out into the ocean. 13:04 None of this stuff could be confirmed or, you know, even if this man existed, right? 13:11 Another story was that they had planned to meet up with four older boys at a 13:15 Park officers search the east side of town out toward Kenwood and Sugarloaf 13:20 Ridge State Park and around Spring Lake which is a park on the east side of 13:24 Santa Rosa. Robert Riddell one of the Santa Rosa police officers on the case 13:29 said later about a weekend that all leads just stopped and within two weeks 13:34 nobody was calling about the girls at all. Straight up vanished. Hitchhiking. 13:40 Just like Mike's boner earlier. I guess based 13:44 This whole story is a boner killer. Yeah 13:47 Well for some people 13:50 Mm-hmm. I love dead kid. Not for everybody. I 13:55 Knew where he was going with that as soon as he's like well 13:59 Kim Wendy Allen was born on July 22nd 14:03 1952 to Kimball and Roberta Allen and she had a sister Annalee and a brother Robert 14:09 her. She went to Ursuline, a private girls high school in Santa Rosa, and she was a senior 14:13 class spirit leader there. But people who knew her said she kept to herself. And her mom 14:18 said she quote, trusted everyone and believed that people were good. 14:22 That is not a trait that I would recommend installing in your kids. It was very dangerous 14:27 thinking. You should be good to everyone. Sure. You shouldn't necessarily assume 14:32 that everyone is good. No, she should trust anybody. Yeah. Well, Stone Cold Steve 14:37 Boston taught me that when I was 12 years old. This message was DTA. Don't trust anybody. 14:42 There you go. 14:42 And he'd fucking hit you with the Stone Cold Stunner and about to snap your neck. 14:45 Saw him do it to his own friend Jim Ross. Taught me from a young age. I don't trust any motherfuckers. 14:52 And who said wrestling wasn't good for a kid's psyche? Man, wrestling is more real than life. 14:59 God bless Steve Austin. There are more fake people in your real life than there are on the pro wrestling screen. 15:13 That was extra loud today and I loved it. 15:15 That rose that was like a shot of adrenaline right into my veins. 15:19 Very loud. 15:20 I don't know what's going on there. 15:21 Whoo, I love that. 15:23 You ever get that in the post that someone is going to be listening 15:27 on air? Motherfuckers just spilled hot coffee all over themselves. 15:33 Fucking Steve Austin, big DTA. 15:37 We're going to hit you with that later in the show. 15:38 You don't know when and sometimes common. 15:40 Yeah. 15:41 By 1972, Kim was 19 and in her fourth semester at Santa Rosa Junior College studying art. 15:49 She lived in the 2200 block of Gernville Road with two roommates and she worked part-time 15:55 at Larkspur Natural Foods, a health food store down in Marin County about 40 miles south. 16:01 She didn't have a car, so she hitchhiked to work and back. 16:05 Like, every day, this was her routine. 16:08 This fucking hitchhiking. 16:09 I know. 16:09 Ed Kemper was doing his thing around this time right so many as we're a hundred probably other guys. Yeah, I 16:18 Certainly wasn't I wasn't alive, so you can't get me on that one 16:24 Did it ever cross your mind is like a teenager ever to hitchhike that you were 16:28 Like in the 80s was that happening as much? No, I remember we picked up a girls hitchhiking before like just in the neighborhood 16:36 No, I bet you did pervert 16:43 We didn't sex them or anything, that's what you're saying, we didn't do a sex. 16:53 I une-oververse card you do that. 16:55 I see that. 16:59 On Saturday, March 4th, Kim spent the morning with friends in San Francisco and then hitchhiked 17:04 up to Larkspur and she got to work right before her shift started at noon. 17:09 and she worked for about five hours. 17:12 Then two men picked her up on Magnolia Avenue 17:14 right outside the store. 17:16 They were only going a few miles to San Rafael, 17:20 but she figured she'd have a better shot 17:22 at a ride north from there. 17:24 They let her out on Belle Avenue 17:27 near the northbound ramp on Highway 101. 17:30 And the last time they saw her, 17:32 that would have been in Brown 520 with her thumb out, 17:36 she was gonna- 17:38 Yeah. She had on a beige coat with an orange backpack with an aluminum frame and she was 17:44 carrying a big wooden soy sauce barrel with red Chinese writing on the side. Her friend said 17:50 that she was going to make that into a drum when we get into like her being reported as missing 17:54 and stuff. There were a lot of drivers I remembered seeing her carrying. Yeah. 17:59 Drum and orange backpack. You might remember that. Sure. Didn't Pee Wee have like a big 18:05 fake thumb for hitchhiking or am I making that up? 18:08 I don't know why I think that. 18:10 Oh, like Peewee Herman. 18:12 Yeah, people are like a big fake thumb. 18:14 They didn't even put up one of his hitchhiking. 18:16 I was thinking Peewee Gaskins for a second, like, I don't know. 18:22 Peewee Gaskins did some weird shit, right? 18:24 We had that fucking hearse with the cop siren and shit. 18:28 Oh, yeah, I forgot family. 18:32 The next afternoon, so that's Sunday around two o'clock 18:36 two Montgomery High School students were riding motorcycles on Enterprise Road out in the country 18:41 southeast of Santa Rosa when they saw what they thought was a mannequin lying in a creek bed 18:46 about 20 feet down the bank. It was a young woman, facedown and nude. Her wrists and ankles 18:51 had been tied so tight that they'd been bruised and she had been raped and strangled with a cord. 18:57 The county coroner, Andrew Johansson, told reporters quote, 19:01 the pathologist said it was done slowly. She was strangled for at least a half hour or 19:05 more they put her death at around midnight and they specifically also put 19:11 out that she had one gold hoop earring on her like she was still wearing and 19:15 then the other one was never frowned like maybe a souvenir kind of thing those 19:20 guys love souvenirs presumably whoever this killer is that we don't it could 19:26 be a couple guys but it seems to be one person very sadistic and scary person 19:31 than that appears to have never been caught, 19:33 that we're gonna talk about here. 19:35 Oh man. 19:35 With this like prolonged kind of strangling and stuff. 19:38 Yeah, right. 19:39 There were marks on the top of the bank 19:41 and about 10 feet down, there was a dent in the dirt 19:44 about a foot long and 14 inches deep, 19:47 like somebody's leg had gone down into it. 19:50 It looked like whoever threw her over had slipped 19:52 and gone part way down himself. 19:56 Detectives said at the time 19:57 the killer might have gotten hurt 19:58 And they asked anybody, you know 20:01 Nurses working doctors, you know, did anybody show up at the hospital or anything that with a hurt leg or arm? 20:08 There was also an oily substance on her right side that investigators said was like the oil a machine shop uses when it cuts metal 20:17 Interesting and so that's that's pretty fucking specific. Yeah 20:21 Can you send me a picture that oil? Oh, yeah, I see what you mean Ian 20:28 I was like, I mean, I don't know how much, I'm going to do that. 20:31 Yeah. Oh, yeah. I see the oil there. Yeah. 20:38 For four days, nobody knew the woman in that creek was Kim. 20:42 Her roommates hadn't seen her since about March 1st. 20:46 And people at work had last seen her on that Saturday. 20:48 So nobody had reported her missing. 20:51 On Thursday, March 9th, the roommates called the sheriff's office 20:54 and Kim's sister, Annalee, who lived in San Rafael, identified her body the next day. 21:00 in a long time. Yeah, it really is. 21:03 Kim was found in the county, so the case went to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, 21:07 and the sheriff was Don Strapecky, who had been elected in 1970. 21:12 He put 10 detectives on it and brought in Peter Barnett, a criminalist from Berkeley, 21:18 which he's just a criminalist as a fancy term for a dude that comes in and looks at all the 21:23 physical evidence. Sounds a good work if you can get it. Yeah, I'm a criminalist. 21:28 He's from Berkeley, he's a fucking hippie, come on. 21:34 The two men who'd given Kim the ride were questioned. 21:37 Of course, you know, those two are really that hard. 21:40 That'd be a good start. 21:42 That's what you get for just trying to be a nice person. 21:44 I tied up in this shit. 21:46 Hey, that girl that you guys gave a ride to 21:48 and no one ever saw after she got out of your car. 21:50 Yeah, we found her dead. 21:54 The only thing they have going for them though 21:56 is that there were a lot of witnesses 21:58 is that remember seeing her after they dropped her off. 22:01 That's true. Yeah. Yeah. 22:03 That was a few for them. Yeah. 22:05 That was a very big break for them that she was carrying that wooden drum 22:09 and show that Chinese barrel or whatever. 22:11 So if you're going to pick up a hitchhiker, 22:12 make sure they have something very distinguishable. 22:15 A soy sauce barrel. 22:17 Oh, that's fucking perfect. 22:19 Yeah, pick her up. That's fine. 22:23 From the news reporting back then, one of them took a lie detector test 22:27 and was reported that they passed 22:29 and both of them were cleared. 22:31 This was back when lie detectors were like, 22:34 well, they're gonna get you on it. 22:35 Like cutting it, like it's bullshit. 22:38 Oh, lie detector, I passed a lie detector. 22:41 Clearly I didn't do it. 22:43 Big deal back in those days. 22:45 That's like we recently did the OT on the death penalty 22:49 and I think we're realizing, 22:50 oh, it's not as 100% foolproof as we thought. 22:53 Maybe, maybe we need to relook this whole system. 22:57 you just have this image that our society is held together by these I don't 23:02 even know what you like these boundaries and like competent people are in charge 23:07 at various levels of whatnot but it's just not the case yeah there's fucking 23:11 clowns running things yeah the safety net is really not as strong as you want 23:16 to think it is there's no guardrails there's no mm-hmm what you think of is 23:20 You know like safety nets and whatnot. Yeah, it doesn't exist. This is a scary conversation 23:27 It couldn't even pump poison into that 50 year old woman and kill her properly incompetent clowns. Yeah all over the place. Yeah 23:38 Just trying to enrich themselves and not working for the betterment of society 23:43 There's a really good 23:45 podcast or something that President Obama did. 23:48 I don't know what it was. 23:49 Sometime since he's been like not president, 23:52 but he's talking about like working up the ladder of life 23:56 and like from like being in high school or whatever 23:58 to being president. 24:00 And like when you get at the next table, 24:03 you're like, no, those people aren't is like a smart 24:05 and whatever is I thought they were. 24:07 You just keep going until you meet world leaders. 24:09 And you're like, oh wait, 24:10 they're not as smart as I thought they would be. 24:12 Huh, interesting. 24:14 Uh-huh. 24:15 Hmm. 24:16 Who knew? 24:17 Yeah. 24:17 Who the fuck it? 24:19 I wonder how, if it would have been different for these guys, if they had like bombed the 24:24 lie detector, where that would have went. 24:26 Sure. 24:26 Because back then, like we said, it was more like, in people's minds, foolproof, like, 24:30 oh, they passed the lie detector, oh, and we have witnesses, all right, they're fine. 24:34 These dudes would have been on a fucking death row, probably. 24:36 Yeah. 24:36 For real. 24:37 They would have closed the case. 24:39 Meanwhile, bodies are still turning up. 24:40 Meanwhile, he had to pin this shoe putting his toe into it. So he would spike the line 24:46 Well, hey Billy Bob, let him go. They passed 24:50 Ain't no chance that they kill these people 24:53 Andy pass the test 24:55 Let him go now. We're back in Maybearer 25:00 Ain't no way they killed them girls past. I didn't see that episode of Andy Griffin 25:07 When Barney's investigating murders of young women 25:11 It turns out it's Aunt B, she's torturing him in the basement. 25:17 She's got a rack down there. 25:19 Andy had no idea. 25:21 Andy is Aunt B, she's a killer. 25:24 Opie was the one learning them into the house. 25:27 They've got super dark. 25:28 He was, he was Aunt B's Alex Mack or whatever that chick was. 25:31 Alex Mack, the cult. 25:33 Allison Mack. 25:34 Allison Mack. 25:35 Oh yeah. 25:35 Allison Mack. 25:37 Oh, that was Opie. 25:42 We're going to do a reimagining of the Andy Griffith show, and it's going to be real fucking 25:46 dark. 25:48 What is that trademark run out? 25:50 We can make Andy Griffith horror movie. 25:53 Well, this is real name. 25:54 We might have some trouble with that, right? 25:56 Is that his real name? 25:58 Was it? 25:59 I thought his name was Andy Griffith. 26:00 Oh, was it? 26:02 I don't know. 26:03 I'm going to look it up. 26:04 We'll do the Barney Fife. 26:06 Maybe we'll get Matlock. 26:07 Can we get Matlock? 26:08 That was his other hair, right? 26:12 Really weird version of Mal. 26:15 Yeah, Andy's not even Andrew, Andy, Samuel Griffith. 26:19 All right, there you go. 26:21 By the way, he passed away in 2012, 26:22 case you were wondering and said, I didn't know that. 26:25 Well, he'd be like 4,000 years old alive. 26:28 That dude came out like he was old 26:30 when the Annie Griffith show was on 26:31 and that was in black and white. 26:33 I know my grandma used to watch Maloch and stuff 26:35 and that dude was ancient back then. 26:37 Yeah, that's true. 26:38 Matlock was good. 26:39 I never watched Matlock. 26:40 My dad's all-time favorite show is Andy Griffith's show. 26:43 So I've seen quite a few episodes. 26:45 That's good. 26:46 They have that town down there you can go visit. 26:49 Mayberry? 26:50 Or like their version of it? 26:51 Mm-hmm. 26:52 North Carolina? 26:53 Mm-hmm. 26:55 Okay. 26:56 That's all I have. 26:57 I'm out of derailments for now. 27:02 So aside from those two guys that took the lie detector test, 27:05 They looked at more than 30 people, and one of them was a guy named Robert Lee Bouchon. 27:11 He was arrested that same month after he picked up a woman hitchhiking near Sebastopol, west 27:18 of Santa Rosa, and tied her wrists. 27:20 He took her back to his apartment in Santa Rosa and made her undress. 27:24 And she got away the next morning. 27:27 Detectives looked at him for Kim, but couldn't find anything to connect him. 27:31 him, he played guilty to kidnapping this woman in this case and was sent to San Quentin. 27:39 So thankfully she was able to get away. 27:42 Hopefully she didn't fucking hitchhike again. 27:45 No, no more hitchhiking. 27:47 No. 27:47 Maybe he got to see Johnny Cash do his live show when he was there. 27:51 Is that where he did it? 27:53 I saw a good meme the other day that today's country stars do a show at San Quentin 27:59 and to lobby for longer sentences for the inmates as actually in 1969. 28:07 So this was before that, never mind. 28:09 On March 24th, sometime between six in the morning and noon, somebody dropped 28:14 Kim's checkbook into a drive-up mailbox across the street from the post office 28:20 in Kentfield, a little town in Marin, right next to Larkspur. 28:26 that was 20 days after she was killed. 28:29 Detectives found two fingerprints on it 28:31 that they thought might be the killers. 28:34 I have no word on those fingerprints. 28:37 Is it possible someone just found it on the ground 28:40 and figured if I throw it in here, it'll get returned? 28:44 Possibly, right? 28:45 Yeah, maybe so, maybe. 28:47 I didn't think of that, that could be. 28:48 Yeah, it might not be nefarious, 28:50 like the guy trolling and fucking with people. 28:52 Well, but her coat in the soy sauce barrel had never turned up. 28:57 Well, you're not just going to give back a soy sauce barrel, right? 28:59 Sounds fucking awesome. 29:00 Do all kinds of stuff with that thing. 29:03 I could see being in a cool drum for sure. 29:05 Yeah. Yeah. 29:06 I like to have a barrel of soy sauce here. 29:08 Never run out. 29:10 I do love some soy sauce. 29:11 The best, you know. 29:13 Do a shot of it every morning. 29:15 Yeah. No. 29:16 It keeps you so healthy and spry. 29:20 I start your day was just a shot of sodium like just straight. 29:24 So they started doing brick flair stuff. 29:31 Apparently after Kim was found her parents kind of put together this a public effort, 29:40 I guess to get women and young people in general, anybody to stop hitchhiking good. 29:46 Yeah. Sonoma State put out carpools for students. Sheriff's Lieutenant named Charles Kishba said, 29:54 quote, we have had more than 100 rapes last year, and about 80% of them have involved hitchhiking. 30:02 And they had a big uptick in women calling in to report rapes because of Kim. You know what 30:08 I mean? Like they were maybe this was the guy that raped me. Yeah, exactly. So I, man, 30:13 And it's just like the seven, like late seventies 30:17 and stuff has to be like the golden age for these creditors. 30:22 Like how many fucking old people are out there walking 30:24 around there, you know what I mean? 30:26 Like rape is. 30:27 Yeah. 30:27 Yeah, right. 30:28 Or have been raped. 30:29 Right. 30:30 Just victims who never spoke up about it. 30:33 Or even, and on top of that, date rape type stuff 30:36 where, you know, probably women back then 30:37 didn't even consider that rape sometimes. 30:39 And like not stranger rape, I mean. 30:42 Or just didn't really even know like if you know wake up and you just all I was doing drugs and having a party and woke up 30:49 And you didn't even realize 30:51 What a weird thing to be a rapist like I never got that what a weird like just we're normal adjusted 30:59 Decent guy. You had no problem getting a vagina when you want to go up one. That's true, but yeah, well, that's absolutely very true 31:07 You can read about it in my sexual memoirs coming out 31:14 sexual memoirs. 31:15 I just find it odd, I don't know, 31:17 that brings joy to people. 31:19 It's just the weirdest thing to me. 31:20 No. 31:22 Yeah, I don't, I can't even wrap my head around that. 31:25 That's what I'm trying to say. 31:26 If that came out wrong. 31:28 Yeah. 31:30 It's like the fucking Golden State Killer dude, right? 31:33 Like that's all his thing was for the most part 31:35 was just his early stuff was all rape. 31:39 Remember? 31:39 Is that in cell behavior punishing women for not wanting you is that what a lot of rape is I think so 31:45 Maybe that or just like the domination factor. Yeah 31:49 Right like just getting off on that but like women way too like far obviously, you know, clearly 31:55 You don't see women as human and like property or pieces of meat kind of thing. Yeah, I 32:01 Hate men the fucking worst 32:04 scumbags, yeah, I 32:07 Don't like me either 32:09 You're an asshole. 32:14 Jeanette Kamahalo was born on February 10th, 1952. 32:19 Her family was Hawaiian and she grew up in Japan because her dad was in the Navy. 32:24 She graduated in 1970 from Yokohama American High School, 32:28 which was a school for American military kids over there. 32:32 And then she moved to California to go to Santa Rosa Junior College. 32:36 Same school as Kim. 32:38 Down in Katati, a small town about eight miles south of Santa Rosa, 32:42 she had a place on Sierra Avenue with her roommate, Nora Morales. 32:47 She didn't have a car and there wasn't a bus, so she hitchhiked to school every day from the free 32:54 way on ramps. Insanity. What went on back then? I wonder, I probably said this a handful of times 33:01 over the years talking about these kind of cases, but like I wonder what if it's like 33:04 that just have that carefree mentality where like that's just acceptable. 33:09 I know in your mind, you're like, fuck it. 33:11 That's how I'm getting to work today. 33:13 Maybe that's how they're going to look at us 50 years from now. 33:15 Like, look at these people just abusing AI and how they're using it. 33:19 So really nilly. Did they not realize they're destroying themselves? 33:22 No machines run us. 33:24 Thanks. And they're like, oh, let's just do it. 33:26 Let me get on to all the old chat GPT and ask it, you know, 33:30 what do butt plugs look like? 33:33 Meanwhile, it was remembering every single thing and then they're going to be like, what was 33:38 it like to live in a carefree society where machines didn't slit your throat if you did 33:43 the wrong thing. 33:44 Right. 33:45 I don't know. 33:46 It's okay. 33:47 You can do it. 33:47 Ash and stuff. 33:49 That's pretty special. 33:50 It was actually pretty fucking awesome and they're going to be like, yeah, I got where 33:53 I needed to go for free. 33:54 I have to pay for a bus ticket and have to get a taxi or a car. 33:59 We meet now we get our, you know, extra chicken burritos brought to us at 10 o'clock at night and it's the best 34:05 They're David good as two blizzards and french fries and man 34:08 Was it unawareness of like killings were going on people were getting young women were getting killed in California in the 70s 34:15 By hitchhiking that is a definitive thing 34:20 The news was not widespread and young people didn't pay attention to news 34:24 Or was it a unaware of this taking place? 34:27 Probably that. 34:28 And then maybe like, oh, that happens there. 34:31 That has not impacting me kind of thing. 34:33 Like that doesn't happen in my community. 34:35 Yeah, yeah. 34:36 Or it's such a rare thing. 34:38 Like playing the odds. 34:39 Yeah, like the amount of people that are doing it 34:41 versus how many are having an issue. 34:44 It's probably all of that. 34:45 A mix of all of it. 34:46 It's just part of the culture and what they do and did. 34:50 On Tuesday, April 25th, 1972, Jeanette left for class around 9.30 in the morning and walked to 34:57 the Katate on-ramp on 101. At the time she was five foot five with long dark hair and she had on 35:04 a brown sweater and jeans with sandals. A friend of hers happened to be driving by and he was 35:09 about to pull over and give her a ride when the pickup in front of him stopped first and 35:14 she got in. It was an early fifties Chevy faded Brown and it had a homemade 35:20 camper on the back that's had a little higher than the cab. So not fucking 35:24 creepy at all, right? 35:25 It was a creepy today when I say a homemade can. 35:31 But it was it had wooden sides and a flat roof made out of shakes, which are 35:36 like split wood shingles. The driver was a white guy in his 20s or 30s 35:43 with an Afro and either mutton chops or a full beard. 35:47 And from the way he sat in the truck, he looked tall. 35:50 That is not a vehicle you should be getting into. 35:54 When Jeanette didn't come home that day, 35:56 Nora started calling Jeanette's teachers 35:58 and found that she had missed every class. 36:01 Nora reported her missing just on a before 36:05 and the friend called the authorities 36:07 and her Jeanette never made it to school. 36:09 Her roommate said, quote, she's not at all flighty. 36:13 She just wouldn't take off without telling anyone. 36:15 This was one that nobody treated as a runaway, 36:19 which is different for this time frame. 36:22 Which we hear all the time. 36:23 But unfortunately, Jeanette has never been found. 36:26 Lori Lee Kurza was born in February 1959 36:30 to Homer and Lorraine Kurza. 36:33 And she had a little brother, Larry, 36:34 who was seven in 1972. 36:36 Her parents split up when she was young and her dad, who had been a Santa Rosa cop, moved 36:41 to Florida. 36:43 Lori lived with her mom on Dolores Lane and was an eighth grader at Cook Junior High. 36:49 She ran away a lot and when she ran away, she would stay with friends for a few days 36:54 and then come home. 36:56 She also hitchhiked, so she's another one that was hitchhiking at 13. 37:00 Eighth grade, running away and hitchhiking. 37:02 We're bright. 37:04 On November 11th, 1972, Lori ran off from her mom 37:08 while the two of them were shopping 37:10 at the You Save Grocery store. 37:12 And her mom reported her missing that same day. 37:15 That's intense running away. 37:17 Like I get run, like I've ran away before when I was a kid. 37:20 Like I get hopping out the window and like just taking off. 37:24 I've never just been like, all right, 37:25 I'm dipping out in the middle of a grocery store. 37:28 That's a lot to deal with as a parent. 37:31 I've dipped out of like the window multiple times, 37:34 but never in the middle of a grocery store. 37:38 Did you put all your stuff in like a knapsack? 37:41 It's like a bandana to tie it around 37:44 to go take up the hobo lifestyle on trains and ride the rails. 37:50 Yeah. 37:52 You ain't ever going to see me again, mom. 37:54 Me and Marvin, we're going to go out on our own. 37:58 Do you remember the it's always sunny with a Mac and Charlie faked their own death. Yes 38:03 We're talking about like the hobo things like trying to tie everything up in the bandit like how do they fit so much 38:13 There's something about fall where all I want is the coziest bed possible, but it gets cold in Ohio 38:19 It's dark by seven and all I want is to pile on blankets and get under them, but I sleep hot 38:25 I always have so I'd get into bed feeling perfect and then wake up at three in the morning with my head stuck to my pillow 38:33 kicking the covers off 38:35 Then an hour later. I'm cold and pulling them back up and for the longest time 38:40 I didn't think about my bedding at all. I couldn't have told you when we bought the sheets 38:44 We had bedding starts to wear down so slowly that you don't notice it 38:48 The corners stop staying on the pillows go flat and you just live with it 38:53 Most people keep their bedding way longer than they should, and you don't realize how 38:57 much it's affecting your sleep until you finally replace it. 39:00 That's why we upgraded our bed with Bowen Branch. 39:04 Their signature sheets are 100% organic cotton, and they're woven for airflow, not 39:09 just to be soft. 39:11 It's not some synthetic cooling fabric or chemical treatment. 39:15 The cooling comes from how the cotton is woven, so you can layer up on a cold night 39:19 without feeling trapped under a pile of heavy bedding that's holding all your heat. 39:24 And they make the whole bed. We've got the signature sheets, the pillows, 39:28 a comforter, and the waffle blanket. And it's all designed to work together. 39:32 Sleeping bedder doesn't have to be some huge project. A lot of the time it isn't the 39:37 mattress. It's the old stuff on top of it. No complicated setup, no routine. 39:43 You put it on the bed and that's it. Now when I get into bed on a cold night, 39:47 the sheets are soft and cool the second I lie down and I can have the comforter and waffle blanket 39:52 on top without it getting stuffy the waffle blanket is my favorite thing on the bed it went on there 39:59 as an extra and now I won't sleep without it and I'm not waking up sweating anymore that alone was 40:05 worth it 94% of their customers say the sheets have gotten softer with every wash which I didn't 40:11 believe until it happened to mine between working the kids by the time I get into bed I wanted 40:16 to feel like rest. And it does. I look forward to getting into bed now. I use Bowen Branch and 40:22 I'm never going back to regular bedding. Most people start with the signature sheet set, 40:27 and a lot of customers grab too so they can rotate them. Then add the Comforter or Waffle 40:32 Blanket to finish the bed. So yeah, she 42:22 ran off in the middle of a grocery store and her mom reported her missing. 42:27 There were rumors that she told her brother that she was going to a 42:30 friend's place in Ronher Park, the next town south, or that she was going to try to get 42:36 the Florida to see her dad, but none of that has ever been confirmed or anything. Friends 42:42 saw her around Santa Rosa on November 20th or 21st, and somebody thought that they 42:48 saw her hitchhiking on the 30th. On Thursday, December 14th, around 3.20 in the afternoon, 42:55 A young couple walking on Calistoga Road out past Rincon Valley on the east side of Santa Rosa 43:02 found a girl about 30 feet down a steep bank. She'd been thrown over and the trees had stopped her 43:08 down in a bunch of trash people had dumped off the road. She was nude and frozen solid cold 43:15 and had chipped red nail polish. There were little wire hoop earrings in her ear lobes but 43:22 But whatever had been hanging from them was gone and had never been found. 43:26 So maybe another trophy kind of thing. 43:29 Keepsake. 43:30 Yeah. 43:31 The following day, then all records confirmed that it was Lori. 43:36 The first two bones in her neck had been dislocated and her spinal cord was compressed and bleeding. 43:42 She hadn't been sexually assaulted. 43:45 The coroner, we talked about earlier, Andrew Johansson put her death at one to two weeks 43:51 before she was found, somewhere in that first week of December. 43:55 After it was in the news, a man called the sheriff's office about something that he'd 43:59 seen somewhere between December 3rd and the 9th, around 9.30 at night, on his way home 44:05 from work. 44:06 On Parkhurst Drive, two men came out of an apartment complex walking a girl who looked 44:11 like Lori, holding her up between them like she couldn't walk on her own. 44:15 They ran her across the street and pushed her into the back of a van. 44:18 Oh, thanks for calling the police on the spot. I know jerk off. We've had witnesses like this in the past 44:23 Yeah, we're doing it. You follow that fan, dude. Of course you do something about it at least call at the very least 44:31 I don't understand like this my biggest regret is that fucking target thing 44:37 I know I've talked about it so many times where that guy was talking so weird to that teenage girl 44:41 He was like holding her arm and oh it was so strange me and I could draw that guy 44:47 I get like picture perfect in my mind. 44:50 I wish I would have followed that fucking van. 44:54 Yeah. 44:55 But then I get fucking shot and then. 44:58 It's scary to involve yourself in 45:00 cause you don't know violence 45:02 or what other situation you're going to get involved in. 45:05 Which is why like I, at the very least, 45:07 maybe just call the police. 45:08 But you can get a plate and you can follow from a distance. 45:10 That's what I mean. 45:10 I'll play call the police. 45:12 You cannot sit around for a week or so. 45:14 Give them a location. 45:15 And yeah, like, hey, this van is heading this way. 45:18 Just wanted to let you guys know, yeah, better safe than sorry, man. 45:21 Fuck. I'm going to do that next time. 45:24 Dave's in a car with an open container. 45:26 Hey, just want to let you guys know there might be some Tom 45:29 Fullery going on in this vehicle. 45:30 Be prepared. He's a runner. 45:32 You might have to tase him. 45:35 Like that video, that's what I think of running up 45:37 is in the front lawn. 45:39 You're trying to get in your house. 45:40 Lay your ass out. 45:43 What are you gonna say though? 45:44 He's a passenger, never driving. 45:47 I'm just reporting something that is illegal 45:50 and the cops can handle it however they want. 45:52 They're gonna think my beer is a gun. 45:54 They're gonna shoot me. 45:54 It's probably gonna be your fault, Mr. Dickhead. 45:58 Dave's whole opinion on all this change now. 46:00 Stay the fuck out of it. 46:01 Don't call, report anything. 46:05 It just seems so worse too. 46:10 Like, it's such a bad thing to witness 46:12 and then not say anything about this. 46:15 Yes, 100%. 46:15 Like it's not even like something like I just said, 46:17 like Target, it gave me a bad vibe, 46:19 like a really bad vibe, 46:20 but like I didn't see this dude doing anything. 46:24 You know what I mean? 46:25 Like it wasn't pushing a girl into a van, 46:27 like it's fucking crazy. 46:27 This girl can't walk. 46:29 Right, like. 46:29 They threw into a van. 46:32 So this guy said that the van was an older white Ford 46:35 that looked like it had been in a wreck 46:37 and the driver's door was a different color, 46:39 gray, or maybe just primer. The man behind the wheel was white with an aphrod. 46:47 The van took off north on Calistoga Road. Two other people called it in two. One 46:52 said they'd seen two men with a girl on Calistoga Road, and the other said that 46:57 they'd seen a girl with a bushy-haired white man in a pickup truck parked near 47:01 where Laurie was found. And to be fair to those witnesses, those are 47:06 like more after the fact. Like I saw an eyewitness kind of thing, like I 47:09 I thought I saw that. 47:11 Nothing like that the other day though. 47:15 Douche. 47:16 The theory that investigators came up with 47:18 was that Lori was kidnapped 47:20 and her clothes were taken off in that van. 47:23 They thought that she had got the door open 47:25 and jumped out while it was moving 47:28 and broke her neck going down into the ravine 47:30 and whoever it was just left her down there 47:33 and the coroner said afterward 47:35 that breaking your neck like that, 47:37 She like she wouldn't been able to move and it probably would have taken her a while to die 47:43 Horrible 47:44 Yeah, cuz you always that's always the thing in these stories, right? That's always like the 47:49 2020 or like quarterback couch quarterback shit like saying oh well you should have jumped or ran away. Well, yeah 47:56 Which you should you should but it did not work in this situation 48:00 But before you get in the car because once you get in the car you're done for so yeah, don't hitch 48:03 Don't ever get in the car. Don't do whatever you can to stay out of the car 48:07 Put that thumb in the eye socket and go out fucking me try it out. Yeah, that's it 48:13 On December 27th, the Santa Rosa press Democrats managing editor 48:18 Art Volkert 48:20 Announced the paper would start something called the secret witness 48:23 Anybody with information could write in anonymously and if it led to an arrest and a conviction the paper would pay to them a reward 48:31 How do you get paid anonymously? 48:33 Oh, don't worry about it. 48:37 We're blowing up their gimmick here, pal. 48:40 You're trying to sell some newspapers. 48:42 You're anonymous until the police want your information 48:44 to testify in court, and then we're 48:46 going to have to get it told. 48:49 The next day, Thursday, December 28th, 48:52 a 16-year-old named Glenfrost was out hiking 48:55 with a friend in the hills along Frans Valley Road 48:58 about six miles north of Santa Rosa 49:00 in an area called the Devil's Kitchen. 49:02 Yeah, that was kitchen cook me something good Satan. Isn't there like a Hell's Kitchen in New York? 49:10 Yeah, what's with all these kitchens and why are they all related to Satan? 49:14 That's a great question. It wasn't a show like Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen. Yeah, I've been to Hell's Kitchen New York 49:21 It's a delightful neighborhood. It's nothing hellish about it. Nothing at all. It's heavenly. It's nice diners and pizza shops 49:28 I love it. It's a heavenly kitchen. I thought it was great 49:31 It's where Alicia Keys was from. 49:33 Is she? 49:34 I went to see that musical that she wrote based on her life, and yeah, it was good. 49:40 Let me guess, it's called New York. 49:41 What was it called? 49:43 I don't remember what it's called. 49:44 Sorry. 49:45 That's all right. 49:45 You can Google it. 49:46 I will. 49:47 I like Alicia Keys. 49:48 She's really good. 49:49 I love her. 49:49 Really good. 49:50 Big fan. 49:52 He came across a human skull that had been bleached from being out in the weather, 49:57 and at first he thought it was from some old burial ground. 50:01 About 60 feet down the steep bank, off the road, a couple miles past Porter Creek Road, 50:07 there were two skeletons. 50:09 There were no clothes anywhere. 50:11 Up near the road, there was a single earring. 50:14 It's reported it is either gold or brass, with the lacy metal pattern and clear orange 50:20 beads hanging off it, and a 14 karat gold necklace with a cross. 50:25 Morine's mom, Arlene, identified the cross and the earrings as Morine's and 50:29 the other earring was never found again so maybe I feel like sometimes in these 50:35 stories you could be like that's a coincidence like it kind of maybe it 50:40 fell off but yeah it seems pretty specific every time yeah there's an 50:45 earring missing or a piece of the earring is missing piece of a band or 50:50 or Holyfields' year is still missing. 50:52 It's just ingested. 50:55 Dude, that fight is like one of the worst times in my life, 50:59 like right in that fight period. 51:01 Oh, really? 51:01 Yeah, I was supposed to go to my dad's 51:04 for to watch that fight, right? 51:06 And I was super excited for it. 51:08 Because that was like 10, I think, when that happened. 51:10 Yeah, so I was super pumped for it. 51:12 And then I couldn't go because I got fucking chicken pox. 51:15 Dude, worst weekend ever. 51:17 Yeah, chicken pox is terrible. Never had it really. Nope. I 51:23 Now love going back and I mean Mike Tyson a real life has done a lot of horrible things 51:30 True. I 51:32 Enjoy going back and watching all of his old fights because of how insanely good he was 51:36 I did not watch them in the time like I never did like a boxing pay-per-view back then 51:42 I wish I would have seen more of these thoughts. Yeah, I never I never really was into it 51:46 Like my dad's side of the family did all kind of sports shit and so I think they were more into 51:51 Like sport events and stuff like that. So yeah, I only was introduced to Mike Tyson because he's a he's a huge pro wrestling fan 51:59 And so he you know, he did WrestleMania 14 and all that and that's when I was like, I'll check this guy out 52:04 He is just fucking killing people 52:07 Yeah, yeah 52:10 Anyways, I had chickenpox all over my entire body like it literally just like coated 52:16 Oh, I had it too as a kid, but it they weren't bad like nothing none of it itched. Oh, I was I was pretty mild 52:22 miserable really 52:24 Yeah, I remember just like laying in a fucking bath of like oatmeal. Oh, yeah, I could still smell that bath 52:30 Yeah, I have like scars on my fucking forehead and shit 52:34 I'm so glad never had that. I see how'd you not have it? 52:38 How do they let you on airplanes if you've never had chicken box? I don't think you should be allowed on airplanes 52:43 I think I'm you know, actually huh my son had I never caught it from 52:49 Hmm interesting. Yeah, mine was pretty mild other than it just look and grody. I don't remember it being too bad 52:55 I 52:55 Did get the shingles vaccine even though it's the same thing 52:59 So I was thinking maybe I'm immune to shingles too because I heard that's fucking horrible. I heard that's like painful 53:03 Yeah, I don't want that so I got the vaccine regardless 53:06 us my grandfather had shingles and it was bad huh brutal I don't want that you 53:14 guys will get there someday having shingles or like getting the vaccine 53:18 hopefully getting the back yeah that sounds not lovely I'll definitely get 53:25 the back so afterwards dental charts confirm that this was Maureen and Yvonne 53:33 So that they were found 11 months after they had disappeared 53:37 And there was nothing left of there was no real way to say how they died the district attorney 53:43 John Hawks said that even though there was no direct evidence of a homicide quote 53:48 It will be handled as if it were a homicide. Yeah, I should help right because that's that's always something that gets brought up 53:55 sometimes over the years was like a 53:58 Kid dying at 11 or whatever is not natural. So something bad happened 54:04 There were 14 age boys given lie detector tests as a result of this. 54:09 None of them were ever named as suspects and I don't know the details beyond that. 54:14 This was one of those cases where the families were very angry that the girls had been written 54:19 off his runaways for that full 11 months that they were missing. 54:24 Yvonne Stepdad, David Harrington said it was obvious that they weren't and that 54:28 he hoped other girls would learn from this and stop hitchhiking. 54:31 came. In January 1973, Sheriff Strapecki held a press conference and said four of the cases 54:37 looked linked. The ones they had bodies for. That was Marine, Yvonne, Kim, and Laurie. He 54:44 pointed out that every one of them was found nude, dumped down a bank, off a narrow country 54:48 road outside Santa Rosa, and that they had been hitchhiking, and their clothes and 54:52 belongings were gone. He thought Jeanette was part of it too, but without her body 54:57 There was no way to know one of the sheriff officials said quote. She's probably out there somewhere, too 55:02 We'll find her someday 55:05 It's a weird quote. Yeah 55:07 There could be more than one person doing this, right? Like when they're talking about how yeah, there's 55:13 You know at least out of a hundred rape cases 80 of them have to do with hitchhiking 55:19 There's obviously more than one guy out there. So right just lumping her in isn't really great a 55:25 A group of eight investigators was put on hitchhiker cases and they started trading information with other counties and other states. 55:34 The paper reported that month that female hitchhikers in Sonoma County were being sexually assaulted about once a week, 55:40 and that was only counting the ones that the police had heard about. 55:43 Which is a small number, I'm sure. 55:45 Yeah. 55:46 Caroline Nadine Davis grew up in Shasta County up north outside the town of Anderson. 55:51 person. Depending on the source, she was 14 or 15 in 1973. Her sister was Judy, five years 55:58 older, and had been raised by their grandmother in Humboldt County on the North Coast, and 56:04 Carolyn lived with her mom and stepdad. On February 6, 1973, around 7 in the morning, 56:10 Carolyn left the house like she was going to school and didn't come back. She was 56:16 wearing a brown jacket with a fur collar and jeans. She left her mom a note that 56:20 said, quote, dear mom, don't worry too much about me. The only thing I'm going to be doing 56:24 is keeping myself alive. Love, Carolyn. Good Lord. That's a rough. Yeah. Her parents reported 56:36 her missing that night. A few weeks later, they got a letter from her mailed from Soledad 56:41 near Monterey saying that she left town on her own and wasn't planning to come back. 56:46 That July, Carolyn showed up in Garberville, down in Southern Humboldt County where her 56:52 grandmother lived, and she stayed there for about two weeks. On July 15th, around one in the afternoon, 56:59 Carolyn's grandmother drove her into town and dropped her off in front of the post office, 57:04 which is two blocks away from Highway 101. Carolyn said she was going to hitchhike 57:09 south to Modesto to stay with some friends. She walked toward the southbound on ramp, 57:14 And that's the last time her family saw her or anybody 57:17 You know from her family's me grandma should take her home if she's 14 or 15 years old and not be dropping her off somewhere 57:23 hmm 57:25 The carefree mentality is wild. It's yeah, like we just can't wrap our heads around it, right? 57:30 I get it all none of it makes sense, but it was it was their way of life 57:35 All right, Graham Graham 57:40 Graham Graham 57:42 On Tuesday, July 31st, around 8.35 at night, a guy 57:46 riding a motorcycle on Frans Valley Road, about two miles 57:50 north of Porter Creek Road, pulled off and smelled 57:53 something bad enough that he went and called it in. 57:56 There was another girl nude face down about 20 feet 57:59 down the bank. And Sheriff Strapecky said that she 58:02 was, quote, not four feet from the exact same spot 58:05 where Marine and Yvonne had been found seven months 58:08 earlier. Yeah. The brush on the hillside wasn't broken or 58:13 flattened. So investigators figured she'd been thrown from 58:16 the road and rolled the rest of the way. They said it was either 58:20 a very large, strong guy who did this or two. Two guys did it. 58:26 I could do it myself. I'm a strong man. You have done it 58:31 yourself, you said? No, I said I could. I was just trying to 58:33 flesh out suspect types. We'll have to go to the tape on 58:36 that one. Sheriff Strupecky was pretty pissed off. Publicly talking about it and 58:46 said, quote, it looks like we've got a guy here who likes young girls. A San 58:51 Francisco TV reporter at Arno asked him about it. And he said, quote, it's a 58:56 mystery to us to Ed. It was like, it was like a, we get it, Ed. You know, like 59:01 motherfucker, I'm trying to find this guy. Now he's all pissy. At first, the 59:09 Autopsy couldn't find a cause of death. There were no marks of strangling and no broken bones 59:14 Then the blood and tissue test came back and it was strict nine 59:18 Which that's like rat and gopher bait 59:21 Hmm super super painful way to die about an hour more of muscle spasms before your lungs just give out 59:29 That does not seem fun. No. No, I don't think I want to try that. I 59:34 Like strict 69 59:39 I suppose it would be. 59:41 Stupid. 59:42 Any spasms you have in that might be enjoyable. 59:45 Yeah, right. 59:45 You calm and then you die. 59:46 No. 59:47 Strict 69. 59:50 And then you're dead. 59:52 There you go. 59:52 That's it. 59:53 What a way to go. 59:55 The pathologist put her death at July 20th, five days after her grandmother had dropped 60:02 her off. 60:03 So, who knows what she was doing for five days? 60:06 Or... 60:07 She could have been hitchhiking for five days. 60:09 She could have been being held captive for five days. 60:12 Yeah. 60:13 There was no way to tell how she was given strict nine. 60:17 It was either by needle or by pill. 60:21 There was also no heroin or speed in her system. 60:25 Can they say the same thing about you, Mike? 60:26 I don't know. 60:27 No heroin or speed in my system. 60:29 That's very true. 60:31 Is it, though? 60:32 You will find nothing in my system 60:33 except large amounts of alcohol in my blood. 60:36 Fair enough. 60:36 Well, what you haven't gotten your 500 tattoo yet, so that will probably change 60:40 I'll be on math. I think usually tattoos come with a meth addiction what I understand 60:47 There's method in the tattoo ink probably and that's what to get you hooked. That's right 60:51 It's what got me hooked. Yeah 60:53 All right. Well, I could stand to shed a few pounds 60:55 I don't know much about math 60:57 But it seems like the most horrible drug on planet earth because I just want to sit on my couch and fucking 61:03 and veg out and this makes you stay up all night 61:06 and you're cleaning at 4 a.m. 61:08 and doing all kinds of dumb shit, right? 61:10 Just, yeah, fired up. 61:12 I do not want to be fired up. 61:13 No. 61:14 I want the opposite of that every day. 61:16 I want to be comatose. 61:16 Yes. 61:17 Give me that drug. 61:18 That sounds horrible. 61:19 That's heroin, right? 61:20 Yeah, that's what I want. 61:22 All right, I guess I'm gonna do heroin. 61:25 I've decided it was between meth and heroin. 61:27 I'm gonna go the heroin. 61:28 It's good, I think you're making the right choice. 61:29 Yeah. 61:30 All right, good. 61:31 You don't lose your teeth with heroin, right? 61:33 Can I drink heroin? 61:34 I'm good at that. 61:35 Probably. 61:35 I can drink it. 61:36 All right. 61:37 Heroin infused beer? 61:38 Someone find me a heroin drink. 61:40 Stat. 61:41 On the rocks. 61:42 A double. 61:43 I'll take a double heroin, please, with a. 61:46 On the rocks? 61:47 Shot of Yeager on the side. 61:48 Whatever you do. 61:50 Maybe a lime? 61:50 A lime on it. 61:52 Is heroin better with lime? 61:53 I don't know. 61:54 You guys tell me. 61:58 Kind of weird. 61:59 There was a little hole in her right ear lobe that looked like somebody tried to pierce it and her left ear wasn't pierced at all 62:07 right, so like her ears weren't pierced, but it looked like 62:10 Somebody tried to pierce it. There was also another investigator 62:13 The count that I read that said that he didn't think so that he thought it was probably from decomposition 62:20 but still 62:22 The ear piercing thing is very weird 62:25 Yeah 62:25 No, like there's definitely a trophy thing going on. 62:28 Like something's up with the ears. 62:30 This is the most we've ever talked about ears on the show. 62:32 Right. 62:32 We've literally never talked about earrings before. 62:35 Yes, no. 62:37 I was just talking about a 14 year old girl's 62:39 fucking decomposition is awful. 62:42 I mean, worry about whether it was a pierced ear 62:45 part of the decomposition process. 62:48 Yeah, it's all bad. 62:49 It's a horrible story. 62:51 Yeah. 62:51 Sorry, dude. 62:52 Yeah. 62:53 I wasn't kidding when I said part one is just dad. 62:55 Is this is a death-heavy episode even for our standards, I think 63:00 Bitch don't kill my vibe. That's what Kendrick said. You're not 63:04 You're killing my vibe motherfucker get a good Sunday vibe going on. I didn't tell this 63:13 I know this is a rare Sunday recording. Yeah 63:17 You know Dave you had a good vibe going in you haven't even brought up Thursday night football 63:22 ball. That was the vibe there. I was so happy. That was great. 63:31 Anytime Cleveland beats Pittsburgh. That is the best 63:34 fucking thing in the world. In all fairness, it is our 63:37 Super Bowl. It is. Absolutely. They have a bunch in recent 63:40 years to be like, okay, we lost the Browns that fucking 63:42 sucks. But you know, when Cleveland marches into 63:45 Pittsburgh later, the season and does the same thing. 63:47 Wow, that's gonna be the shit. 63:51 Okay, you guys have to make a wager for that one. 63:55 First place Cleveland Browns, three in one. 63:58 Are we still first place though? 64:00 There's been some football happening today. 64:01 Or at least tied for first place. 64:03 I'll take it. 64:04 Yeah, I really don't like DeSean Watson at all. 64:07 Oh, I do. 64:08 I didn't like him before, 64:09 because he's a piece of shit. 64:10 Well, let's not be hasty here. 64:13 Cleveland is babyface turned to Sean. 64:16 Like oh well, he just took his penis out a couple times. Why are we being so hasty here really not a likeable guy? 64:22 He's not you give us three wins and we're like fuck. Yeah, man patron say to Cleveland 64:27 How many kids did he kill is that proven? 64:31 Yeah 64:32 Now you have extra reason to hate him. Yeah, I never really paid attention to him too much 64:36 Like I'd ever watched him play really and he hasn't played for Cleveland at all like six games 64:41 Coming to the year we had for 15 years 90 million dollars a month something like that 64:47 That's not exact, but I really don't like to see him do good and arrogant smile 64:53 He does have an air. I 64:55 Will heavily root for anybody to fucking destroy that 65:05 If it's the other kid the other kid who's the other one Shador Shador Sanders or Shador in there fine 65:11 Well, it's not gonna happen anytime soon. No 65:13 Well, we could lose an extra games and then he's right back at Shaddur's. That's true. That's true 65:18 Deshaun seems like a huge piece of shit yet. He is winning at life 65:22 He has probably the hottest wife in the NFL. He's a sexual offender. This lady 65:29 Unbelievably hot. I don't know what she looks like. I didn't know my goodness 65:33 but 65:34 Apparently, it's okay to take your wiener out when you go to massages if you have money. You have money 65:39 And you're an athlete. Yeah, you could throw a touch sound 65:43 It's so crazy how Cleveland's like opinion is just shifted. It's so funny 65:47 Like they were booing that guy when he was being carted off the field now like 65:53 I'm happy the Browns are winning but I yeah, I can't root for this. No, I don't like him at all 65:58 There's a societal thing going on 66:00 With like the face turn of that dude even with like NFL commentators across the board 66:06 Talking about him really I I don't pay as much close attention as you do. So I yeah, like everybody. Yeah flipped on him 66:14 I also don't love that Romo got fired. I love Romo as a color person. That's what booze in at work will do 66:20 I know was he drunk in the drug? 66:23 Yeah, DUI. Well, I know you got it sounded like it had been like a long time coming thing 66:29 This is the final straw type thing. Yeah, he's the best. I love Romo games. Tom Brady is fucking terrible 66:36 Terrible the guy accidentally turned off his mic today, and they couldn't figure out why oh, really? 66:41 Yeah, I got this big thing here, and I hit the bug my button would turn it off 66:45 He always tries to make jokes in there. It's not fun. Oh bad fucking bring Romo back 66:50 Look when you got super bulls you call your shots. You do whatever you want 66:56 He's terrible 66:57 Who's the one commentator everybody hates we managed a lot of derails on this episode Joe Buck 67:02 I like Joe book. I don't like him. He sucks awful. Yeah people hate on Joe Buck. I like Joe buck 67:09 I think he's awesome. I'm in the minority. I think they say fuck buck 67:14 I don't think they do but I made that up and I apologize to mr. Buck, but there's just lots of memes about Collins worth suckin 67:22 He's those are homes. They're so funny because he's so obsessed 67:26 So funny. He's so obsessed. There's like I saw an egg like a kid passed out in a urinal 67:32 They're like Collins worth when my home's takes a piss 67:40 That's the worst why it's Tatum he's a bangle back in the you know back in the 80s just a dick 67:46 My memory of Chris Collins worth will always be that show he hosted in like the late 90s the Guinness World Records show 67:54 I used to love that show as a kid and he was the host and I didn't know at the time that he was like a football player 68:00 I just thought he was like some dweeb that they got the host 68:03 Yes, and then I was told like oh this guy was like a like a wide receiver wasn't it like that fucking guy 68:08 I know I look like I could knock his ass down. I know 68:12 Probably so good. I hope you do someday. Oh, give me the chance pal 68:16 I can't even think about an ounce or I'm trying to like think of one that I'm really like 68:20 I like that dude. I'll go to bat for him right now. 68:23 You just hate all announcers. 68:24 I can't think of one that stands out to me. 68:27 Romo always like Nancy and Romo. 68:29 They were the best. 68:30 Al Michaels is always good. 68:31 Al Michaels. Yeah. 68:32 But like other outside of the. Yeah. 68:35 Like I will go to war for like Cleveland's 68:38 like Tom Hamilton for the Guardians is so good. 68:41 Oh, yeah. And then with the Browns, 68:43 we had Jim Donovan doing radio. 68:44 We had we had two of the best radio guys I had ever heard. 68:49 Yeah, anyways 68:51 We'll bring back Romo 68:52 You CBS right? Yeah, maybe Fox will hire him. It's like a little jab maybe 68:57 It was great. He'll probably get a job bit another. I hope so 69:03 Don't care if he's drunk or not. Yeah, there's definitely some games. He sounded drunk. It was great. I 69:10 Do I do my work here better intoxicated so I can't fucking Romo 69:14 I have the problem maybe not the drunk driving, but if he wants to be on air drunk, yeah, I'll watch that shit 69:19 We do our best work here having the bag. So why can't Romo when they brought the XFL back? 69:26 Just before COVID and then COVID ended up killing it. No, I thought this new XFL stood a little chance 69:35 That should be one of their gimmicks. Mm-hmm the commentators are gonna be drinking while they talk 69:39 It's gonna be like hanging out with your buds watching the game. Yeah, for sure 69:45 I think who doesn't want that I would have that 69:48 Yeah, fuck it. Who cares? Yeah, I don't give a shit if we're most drinking. Yeah 69:51 Oh, the NFL sucks though now they think I got fine the other day for you know 69:56 Fake chugging a beer after a touchdown when your biggest punch is but lights 70:01 Well as Vince McMahon said in 2001 when he started the XFL it's more like the no fun league 70:11 He was right 25 years ago, he's right today 70:14 Hey, not wrong at all. 70:17 Like a $15,000 fine for his chugging a beer. 70:20 Yeah, that's okay. 70:20 Meanwhile, boat light is plastered on like the walls. 70:23 So dumb. 70:24 Fuck the NFL. 70:25 Everybody in the stands is fucking three sheets to the wind. 70:29 Just absurd. 70:32 Yeah, like beer just goes hand in hand with football. 70:35 Yeah. 70:36 Like, who are you kidding with this nonsense? 70:38 That's ridiculous. 70:39 I didn't know that they did that. 70:41 Just in general, 70:42 the way they handle celebrations is stupid like there's no joy left as long as they're not going 70:47 on and on or like doing something like sexually inappropriate or something like don't pull out 70:53 your dick and start meat spinning I'll draw the line there I would draw the line there you're 70:58 killing the game man yeah like come on anyways so ear lobes yeah also I'm not happy last thing 71:06 I'll say about Pittsburgh Steelers I'm not happy with this whole Aaron Rodgers Mike McCarthy 71:10 Oh there was Eric back and forth with each other you you didn't like McCarthy from the get no this is absurd 71:15 Why are we living in like Green Bay's past? 71:18 Like living on it you bought it pal you guys went to the Goodwill and you bought you bought underwear that had GB packers 71:25 Written inside sitting there fighting with each other six and eleven 71:30 11 I wouldn't be surprised 71:34 You're getting a tramp stamp six and eleven if that happens most years in our division that would still be good for second 71:40 in place, but this year it's looking pretty, 71:42 we're looking pretty tough. 71:43 Cincinnati was looking all right. 71:45 Tram stamp. 71:45 You guys got to make some kind of bet like that. 71:48 Now that we're finally going to put my tattoo stock 71:50 on a wrap, you guys got to come up with something. 71:53 I picked Cincinnati when the vision of my parlay, so. 71:55 Oh yeah, that's right. 71:56 That's offensive. 71:58 I get to book my appointment speaking of. 72:01 Yeah, what's the hold up? 72:02 We hit, this is the 502nd episode right now. 72:05 No, 503rd, I think there was an OT this week. 72:07 I said I'm waiting till we get to 500 to even start the process because I was sure we're gonna get canceled 72:13 Something we're gonna say something stupid. I was just going back and forth on some designs. Okay, all right 72:20 You know I came to learn throughout this process. That shit doesn't go away. It stays with you. I 72:26 Thought you had to go back every six months if you wanted it cleaned up and renewed 72:30 You know lifelong commitment. I'm signing up for I thought you're getting a tattoo. You're doing a real one 72:36 No, that's an idea. I should just K-Fade everybody still time to do it live at the live show on stage if you want to do that 72:46 There's insurance issues to deal with on that one. We can pick five people out of the audience and hand them a tattoo gun and make it two minutes 72:54 But I get two minutes on you sound so fucking inappropriate 72:59 But it has to be like a group design. They can't draw willy-nilly all over your body 73:03 The next person has to continue the work on the same design. 73:07 Hashtag my body, my choice, pal. 73:11 That's, I'll have it done before the live show. 73:13 I just got, you know, we gotta make schedules work out too. 73:17 That's actually not that far away. 73:18 I do need to get moving on it. 73:20 You should put a bandage on your forehead 73:21 when you go to the live show. 73:24 Kayfabe. 73:24 Forehead tattoo, that's what I went with. 73:26 I got a swastika in the middle of my forehead. 73:29 Cross my neck. 73:30 Still healing would be awesome. 73:31 Yeah, I'll do the fucking Cody Rhodes 73:39 Where the fuck were we pal I tried to get us back with earlobes, but Ian had wanted he wanted one more shot at Mike McCarthy 73:46 It was a nice palette cleanser from 73:49 from all the murder 73:51 Well, like the murder we saw Thursday night 73:58 Teresa Diane Walsh 73:59 Everybody called her Terry was 23 and she was from Miranda, a little town in 74:04 southern Humboldt County about 10 miles north of Garberville. She married young 74:10 and had a two-year-old son and she and her husband were separated. In the winter 74:14 of 73 her son was staying with her mom Goldie Smith back home and Terry was 74:19 traveling. That December alone she'd hitchhiked from Washington State down 74:25 to wash the Angeles by herself. 74:27 I feel like she'd almost be like a drifter at that point. 74:30 Yeah. Like if you're hitchhiking that much. 74:31 Yeah, that's a lot. 74:32 I'm in a verge of victim blaming here, 74:34 but if you have a two year old son 74:35 that's staying with grandma, 74:36 you shouldn't be out hitchhiking across the country. 74:39 It's true too. 74:40 It's just, just chill. 74:42 You'll be alright at home with your kid. 74:45 She was staying with friends in Malibu 74:47 and she let her mom know 74:48 that she was coming home for Christmas. 74:51 She tried to line up a ride north, 74:53 including through a group called Hitchhiker's Anonymous 74:56 that was supposed to help people find rides in need, 74:59 like a more organized thing, I guess. 75:02 I'm sure. 75:03 Yeah, it depends on what your quote of organized is. 75:07 There's gonna be a green El Camino 75:09 passing that intersection at 417 today, 75:12 but he's gonna slow it on and you hop in the back. 75:16 So that didn't work, 75:18 so she just did it the old fashioned way. 75:20 Around nine in the morning on December 22nd, 75:22 her friends dropped her off at Zuma Beach. 75:25 She was wearing white bell bottoms and a lavender blouse 75:29 under a hooded brown fur coat that came to her hips. 75:32 And she had brown hiking boots 75:34 and an olive green Boy Scout knapsack. 75:38 She's a far away from home, man. 75:40 That's like 600 miles. 75:41 Still left a hitchhike, presumably with what? 75:45 Like how many dangerous like rolling the dice 75:48 to get back home, you know? 75:50 And even just the social interaction required for that talking to strangers 75:56 Exhausting yeah 75:59 My god, how do you do that? 76:02 Yeah, I mean I only ever use like ride service the ride services when I'm drunk 76:08 But I would also have to be drunk to be in a ride service because I'm not gonna get in it sober and like have awkward 76:15 conversation. Oh, we mark ours. No conversation. I didn't even know 76:19 you could do that. Sure. I usually only book it when I'm 76:21 drunk. So I'm not exploring my preferences and options. Cold 76:24 climate and minimal conversation, please. Okay. I was the one 76:28 yesterday. I didn't say a word. It was phenomenal. On Friday, 76:32 December 28, two kids out kayaking, Mark West Creek, 76:36 north of Santa Rosa, near Mark West Springs Road, and Michelle 76:40 Way found a woman in the water partly under a log with a 76:44 the current holding her against it. 76:46 It took some work to get her out, 76:47 but once they got her out, they found she was nude 76:49 and she had been hog-tied with thin rope. 76:52 Her thumbs were tied together so tight 76:54 that they had gone purple and swollen. 76:56 And a noose around her neck was tied back to her ankles 76:59 and the rope was shorter than she was. 77:02 So she had to keep her body bent back to breathe 77:05 and when she couldn't hold it anymore, 77:07 it strangled her. 77:08 Oh my God. 77:08 That's what I was talking about earlier 77:09 where it's like the level of- 77:12 Sadism. 77:13 Yeah, it's it's pretty crazy. 77:17 She'd been sexually assaulted. 77:19 She'd also been hit hard on the back of the head with something 77:22 and had a big bruise over her left eye. 77:25 The coroner said she thought that she'd been dead somewhere between two days and a week. 77:31 The creek had been about six feet higher the week before. 77:34 An investigator said she could have been put in the water miles upstream. 77:38 They found at least half a dozen spots where somebody could pull off 77:41 and get to the creek, including spots near Calistoga Road, where Laurie was found and 77:47 near Frans Valley Road, where Maureen, Yvonne, and Carolyn were found. 77:52 So when Terry never made it home, on December 31st, Goldie reported her missing to the 77:57 Humboldt County Sheriff's Office. 77:59 On January 9th, 1974, the Sheriff's Office announced that the woman in the creek was 78:04 Terry. 78:05 Sheriff Trepecky said, quote, it's unbelievable to me, but you see it everywhere. 78:09 It seems no matter how many times law enforcement officials report the results of hitchhiking or school officials talk about it 78:16 They still persist 78:18 Yeah 78:21 He's fucking pissed and he's fed up with it 78:24 The nylon rope that tied Terry up went to the FBI and that January the FBI said it was such a common kind of nylon rope 78:32 There was no way to trace where it came from and that is where we will pick back up on part 78:38 Yeah, this is terrible. Yeah, and really no, no ended sight, no lead at all. Really. 78:48 I mean, there's a common thread though with the guy with the Afro. Yeah. You know, that's 78:53 it really right now. Yeah. And the earring thing is super weird. Yeah. Oh, I get the 79:01 sheriff's frustration though, seeing all this happen and seeing young girl still hitchhike. 79:06 He's like, are you not paying attention? 79:08 Stop fucking, yeah, stop. 79:12 You've killed my vibe entirely now. 79:14 That's what I did, congrats. 79:16 He did it on purpose because of Thursday night. 79:18 I knew you were right and he's like, you know what? 79:20 I'm calling an audible. 79:21 I'm gonna fuck his weekend up. 79:22 I'm gonna ruin it. 79:24 I actually put all that back in the back of my head 79:26 and then you just brought it back. 79:29 Bitch, I'll kill your vibe. 79:32 That was such a weird game too 79:33 because it started out like typical Browns. 79:36 Like the first quarter of the Steelers dominated. 79:38 I'm like, this is great. 79:39 I have nothing to worry about. 79:40 And then it just fucking went downhill from there. 79:42 And Tim said, you sure about that? 79:45 You sure about that? 79:46 As soon as Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCartney started fighting, 79:49 it just all went down. I love it. 79:53 All right. There was enough football. 79:58 That's all I got, though. 79:59 There's a bunch to get into next week. 80:01 We won't do three parts on this. 80:02 We'll wrap it up into two parts. 80:04 OK, definitely two parts. 80:05 Yeah, we'll do something fun after the next time. 80:08 Next week, we'll talk a lot more of investigation stuff, 80:10 and then we'll do something fun the week after. 80:13 I like fun stuff. 80:14 Yeah, do something fun for Halloween. 80:17 All right. 80:18 Yeah, we always have fun in October 80:20 with different creepy stuff. 80:22 Yeah, come up with something. 80:24 All right, Dave, what do you got for us on Patreon? 80:26 Well, thank you, new patrons. 80:29 You just lost the game. 80:30 I think that was directed to you, Ian. 80:33 It's probably a Browns fan letting you know about Thursday game again. 80:36 You just lost the game. 80:39 That's what it was. 80:43 Austin is tweaking. 80:46 He probably got a tattoo with the meth embedded in it. 80:48 So it's a tweak or not. 80:49 That's what it is. 80:51 Matt Riggle, Regina Williams, Ted Travis, Dusty Burger, Maggie. 80:57 I put ketchup on my hot dog. 80:59 Well, you're absurd and obscene. 81:02 And you should be in jail canola lovely Laila buster and Victoria macabre 81:11 Thank you new patrons and welcome aboard all right enjoy those archives 81:16 Years worth years waiting for you to hit play 81:20 Ian what do you got for us? 81:22 first real quick when this episode drops on october 11th 81:27 that night 81:28 I will be cutting off the pre-orders for the book.
