Rise of the Dollar Empire

For centuries, European imperial powers ruled their colonies via a system of economic specialization, with the home country providing the manufactured goods, military protection and overall governance, while the colonies supplied raw materials and territory. With the shattering of Europe in the first and second world wars, the West became led by the relatively unscathed United States, and the post-colonial world looked to the Soviet Union and the communist promise of material freedom as a potential alternative to the imperial order. The United States, hoping to block communism and retain its lead in the West, started promoting free trade and anchoring global finance around the gold-backed dollar, circulating its currency by allowing foreign banks to issue dollars and its politics via various NGOs and foreign aid programs. As the colonies began to fall and “independence” movements arose, a new global order took shape with the American culture and economy at its center. Today we are joined by Taylor Young from Antelope Hill Publishing to talk about their new book from Kerry Bolton ‘Rise of the Dollar Empire’, along with Frank Whiteman to review globalism, its consequences, and a potential way forward.
