Cleansing the Temple | Pastor Jayson Hill
Continuing verse by verse through the Gospel of John, the preacher expounds Christ driving the merchants and money changers out of the temple. He answers common misconceptions: that Jesus was weak or effeminate, that the passage forbids churches to speak of giving, and that it licenses man's wrath (James 1:20, Proverbs 19:19, Ephesians 4:26). He shows that the scourge was made deliberately, that Christ acted with authority as the Son over His Father's house, and that the temple leaders had let greed crowd out worship. Using Psalm 139, James 2 and Malachi 3, he calls Christians to let the Lord search their hearts and to drive out whatever hinders true worship before He comes. The message closes with a gospel appeal to see the glory of God rather than His judgment.
