Republicans Keep Their Distance as Midterms Tighten
Donald Trump heads back to Texas for the third time in a month as Republicans face unexpectedly tight midterm races in a state he won easily in 2024. Senate candidate Ken Paxton is struggling against Democrat James Talarico, while polling shows Donald’s approval at just 32 percent and Paxton privately blaming the Iran war, gas prices and diesel costs for hurting his campaign.
The episode also looks at Governor Greg Abbott skipping Donald’s San Antonio rally and a Reuters review finding that candidates in 41 of 62 competitive congressional races are distancing themselves from Donald through policy breaks or by downplaying their ties to him ahead of the November 3 midterms.
