OKC Thunder Select Aday Mara - Is he a WEMBY STOPPER? Plus How Bennett Stirtz Fits

Oklahoma City Thunder’s front office takes a bold swing in the 2026 NBA Draft, selecting Aday Mara at No. 12—raising questions about his future impact and the myth of the “Wemby stopper.” Is Mara’s massive frame and elite rebounding enough to anchor OKC’s defense, or do his conditioning and mobility issues signal long-term concerns? Rylan Stiles explores Mara’s strengths as a drop-coverage big and challenges the narrative that his selection revolves solely around countering Victor Wembanyama. Bennett Stirtz also joins the fold at No. 16, bringing offensive firepower, high-level creation, and questions about his defensive ceiling in postseason play. Key topics include Sam Presti’s draft strategy, Isaiah Hartenstein’s future on the roster, and the shifting roles of Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams. Can the Thunder’s new additions fuel a championship run, or do looming uncertainties threaten their title aspirations next season?
