CLEAN SLATE: Brent Venables SHAKES UP Oklahoma Sooners QB Race, John Mateer Tested
Brent Venables steers Oklahoma Sooners football away from QB controversy, opening up a clean slate at the position and sparking hope among fans seeking improved results. The conversation focused on the decision not to name John Mateer as QB1, increased practice reps for Whitt and Bowe, and what Jason Witten brings as interim offensive coordinator. Is a new approach the key to revitalizing the Sooners’ SEC campaign? A key theme that emerged was Venables’ criteria for the next offensive coordinator—score touchdowns, sustain drives, and maximize talent. The discussion explored player deployment woes, red zone struggles, and the need for a run game resurgence. Several points were raised, including the importance of locker room leadership, potential staff shakeups, and intriguing coaching candidates. With Oklahoma sitting at 4-4, can a new voice on offense restore consistency and propel the Sooners back into contention?
