BUZZ: Oklahoma Sooners, John Mateer, IMPROVED offense will lead OU in 2026

Oklahoma Sooners eye a return to national title contention as confidence quietly surges in Norman. John Mateer’s full recovery transforms expectations for the offense, while Brent Venables’ relentless approach to fixing last year’s run game woes—now with tight ends Hayden Hansen and Rocky Beers plus NFL legend Jason Witten coaching—raises hopes of restored physicality in the trenches. Can this revamped offensive line deliver the balance Oklahoma lacked?

JD PicKell and John Williams break down the impact of a more aggressive, healthy Mateer behind center, special team improvements, and defensive playmakers keeping the Sooners in tough SEC matchups. The conversation explores Venables’ adaptability, the potential for explosive passing down the seam, and the challenge of surviving another grueling schedule. Is Oklahoma primed to silence doubters and emerge as a legitimate playoff threat once the stakes are highest?
