ORIOLES POSTCAST: Pete Alonso Hits 300th HR vs New York Mets, Coby Mayo’s INSIDE-the-PARK HR wins it!

The Baltimore Orioles erased a late deficit, watched Pete Alonso make history against his former team, and then got one of the wildest extra-inning finishes of the season in a 7-5 win over the Mets in 11 innings. With the Orioles down to their final three outs in the ninth, Alonso crushed a 2-0 forkball from Kodai Senga for his 300th career home run—a game-tying blast at Citi Field against the franchise where he built his legacy. The Mets crowd still gave their former star a curtain call after the milestone shot. Then came the extra-inning chaos. In the top of the 11th, Coby Mayo turned on an 0-2 cutter and sent it deep to center for a three-run inside-the-park homer, putting Baltimore ahead for good and turning a memorable night into a massive Orioles win. It was Mayo’s seventh three-run homer of the season, second-most in MLB. But this victory also came with a major concern: Shane Baz was forced from the game in the fifth inning after taking a 105 MPH Bo Bichette line drive off his right elbow. Baz has made every start for Baltimore and carried an enormous load for this rotation despite receiving far too little run support. Orioles fans will be anxiously waiting for an update. Rookie left-hander Luis De Leon gave Baltimore two perfect innings of relief in the sixth and seventh, while the Orioles offense saved its biggest swings for when the game mattered most. Luke Slabaugh reacts to Alonso’s historic No. 300, Mayo’s unbelievable inside-the-park three-run homer, the Orioles’ 11-inning comeback win, and the concern surrounding Shane Baz.
