ORIOLES POSTCAST: Pete Alonso Goes Nuclear as Baltimore Orioles HAMMER Texas Rangers, 10-5
PEEEEEEEEEETE! Pete Alonso just delivered his best game in an Orioles uniform, and the O’s absolutely unloaded on the Texas Rangers in a 10-5 Sunday win. Alonso reached safely in all five plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with two home runs, two walks, and a massive day at the heart of Baltimore’s attack. The Orioles tagged Kumar Rocker early, caught up to the fastball and slider, then kept piling on against Jordan Montgomery and the Texas bullpen. Four homers. Seven extra-base hits. Four separate crooked numbers. Colton Cowser and Tyler O’Neill joined Pete Alonso in going deep as the Orioles offense brought the thunder from start to finish. Cade Povich did not have his sharpest command early, failing to get a first-pitch strike to his first eight hitters and battling his curveball. But after Brandon Nimmo’s three-run homer cut the lead to 5-3, Craig Albernaz turned it over to the bullpen. The ragtag relief crew of Yaramil Hiraldo, Alex Hoppe, Andrew Kittredge and company slammed the door. Luke Slabaugh breaks down Alonso’s eruption, Baltimore’s four-homer barrage, Rocker getting ambushed, Povich’s uneven outing, and why this win felt like a full-on Orioles offensive takeover.
