Why the Cleveland Guardians Are Struggling (It’s Not Just the Bullpen)

The episode breaks down the Cleveland Guardians’ recent struggles after dropping two consecutive series, focusing on offensive inefficiency, poor situational execution, and questionable in-game decisions. While there were a few positives—like strong performances from Schneemann and Manzardo—the team continues to hurt itself with overly aggressive baserunning and defensive lapses, particularly from Juan Brito. The frustration is less about talent and more about missed opportunities and self-inflicted mistakes.

The second half shifts into a deeper analytical discussion, examining bullpen regression signs and Cade Smith’s unusual profile—strong underlying metrics but inconsistent results due to command issues. The host also explains advanced stats like FIP and BABIP to contextualize player performance, before previewing a winnable but challenging series against an injury-riddled Orioles team. Despite Baltimore’s issues, Cleveland likely needs at least a split given their current form and bullpen concerns.
