MATT CAMPBELL: You Have NO IDEA Who We Are, ISU Will SHOCK The World This Season, Jon Heacock

Iowa State’s gritty 24-21 victory over a tough Kansas State team last weekend was a significant moment for the program. The Cyclones opened their season in Dublin with a hard-fought win against a formidable opponent, demonstrating resilience and the ability to win close games. Quarterback Rocco Becht proved to be a dual threat, while the defense made key stops to secure the victory. Despite trailing for a time, Iowa State never gave up, showcasing the kind of mental toughness that has become a hallmark of Coach Matt Campbell's teams. Winning the third straight game against their in-state rival is a testament to the program's upward trajectory and validates their position as a top-25 team. However, a closer look at Coach Campbell’s comments following the game reveals a leader who is far from satisfied. He noted that the team "was not in the best rhythm in the first half" and acknowledged that the Cyclones gave up "four sacks," calling it "very uncharacteristic." His message was clear: a win is great, but the team's performance was far from perfect. Campbell’s comments were a challenge, not just to his team, but to the entire program. He emphasized that the "real result" will be how the team responds and grows from this experience in the coming weeks. For Campbell, the focus is not on the win itself, but on the potential for improvement. The contest proved to be a valuable learning experience. The Cyclones now have the opportunity to take the lessons from a difficult Week 1 matchup and apply them as the season progresses. By dissecting their mistakes and building on their successes against a quality opponent, Iowa State is in a prime position to get better every week. The win was a fantastic start, but the real test lies ahead in how they respond to their coach's call to play a lot better football.
