BYU Basketball Not Fretting Jaxon Kohler Eligiblity Status & House Settlement Has Doled Out Billions | Listener Q&A Session

Welcome into another edition of Locked On Cougars, hosted by Jake Hatch! We are shifting our focus to the hardwood today as the BYU basketball program officially drops its 2026-27 roster. While the excitement surrounding head coach Kevin Young's squad is palpable, the biggest storyline centers around Jaxon Kohler. We break down what having the talented big man on the roster means for the Cougars, even as his ultimate on-court eligibility hangs in the balance amidst an ongoing legal battle playing out in a California court room. On today's show, we examine how Kohler’s skill set—including his inside presence and perimeter shooting—could elevate BYU's frontcourt in a rugged Big 12 conference, and what the timeline looks like for a final resolution on his status. From there, we zoom out to the macro landscape of college athletics as we navigate Year 1 of the landmark House settlement era. We look at the numbers surrounding institutional revenue sharing, discussing how much money schools have distributed under the cap. We analyze where BYU fits into this financial arms race, whether the Cougars are among the programs pushing right up to the maximum cap limits, and how athletic departments across the country are adjusting to this new economic reality.
