STOP Freaking Out Over Texas Tech... START Freaking Out Over Deion Sanders, Colorado

The Big 12 conference slate delivered a masterclass in physicality, with Texas Tech and Baylor both making heavy statements that underline the sheer depth and toughness of this conference.

In Lubbock, Texas Tech turned a hard-nosed performance into a dominant 49-14 victory over Sam Houston. The Red Raiders controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, wearing down their opponents with a relentless ground game led by Cameron Dickey and executing with clinical precision. While national talking heads love to chase high-flying offensive gimmicks, Joey McGuire’s squad showcased a brutal, physical identity that dictates terms in the trenches and proves why this program remains a legitimate force at the top of the conference hierarchy.

Down in Waco, Baylor opened its conference schedule with a gritty 23-13 win over Colorado. Sparked by the return of quarterback DJ Lagway, the Bears weathered a tight, defensive battle before taking over in the second half. Lagway engineered crucial scoring drives, connecting with targets like Jadon Porter and Gavin Freeman, while the Baylor defense slammed the door shut in the fourth quarter.

Across the board, these performances highlight the defining trait of the Big 12: week in and week out, it's an absolute gauntlet where physical execution and trench warfare win games, not coastal hype.
