GRIT: BYU Rallies Past Injuries, Penalties and DOMINATES TCU Behind Bear Bachmeier, Kalani Sitake

Walking into Amon G. Carter Stadium for a high-stakes conference clash is never for the faint of heart, but the No. 10 BYU Cougars proved once again that Kalani Sitake’s squad is built out of pure, unadulterated trench-warfare grit.

Facing a hostile road environment against a desperate TCU team, the Cougars were forced to dig deep after playing without their star workhorse running back, LJ Martin. Rather than folding under the adversity, BYU leaned entirely on its trademark developmental depth and physical resilience. Quarterback Bear Bachmeier put the offense on his shoulders, relentlessly churning out tough yards and punching in two crucial rushing touchdowns to spearhead a gritty 17-10 victory.

While the style points might not satisfy soft coastal analysts obsessed with empty offensive stats, this was a masterpiece in situational football and defensive dominance. BYU’s front suffocated the Horned Frogs, controlling the line of scrimmage, winning the turnover battle, and dictating the tempo when it mattered most. It was the exact type of hard-nosed, low-scoring survival test that defines the Big 12 weekly bloodbath.

By grinding out a tough road win in Fort Worth, the Cougars reinforced why they are legitimate playoff contenders. They don't need gimmicks or soft schedules; they simply out-tough, out-execute, and out-physical Nitty-Gritty opponents. Wins like this prove that when the lights get bright and the trenches get violent, elite Big 12 programs just find a way to win.
