BONUS: Texas Tech DOMINATES Transfer Portal, SLAMS LSU for Brendan Sorsby at $5 Mil Quarterback Tag

Texas Tech has effectively used the transfer portal to transform its roster for the 2025–26 season, particularly following a successful 12–3 football campaign that ended with a narrow loss in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

Football: The Sorsby Era Begins

The crown jewel of Joey McGuire’s 2026 transfer class is Brendan Sorsby, a 5-star dual-threat quarterback from Cincinnati who committed on January 4, 2026. Sorsby chose Lubbock over LSU after a "48-hour visit flurry," bringing 3,380 total yards and 36 touchdowns from his 2025 season with the Bearcats. His arrival has pushed Texas Tech’s 2026 portal class to No. 4 in the national rankings.

To support Sorsby, McGuire has heavily bolstered the defense with two elite "stoppers":

Trey White (Edge): A two-time All-Mountain West selection from San Diego State who recorded 19.5 sacks over three seasons.

Bryce Butler (DL): A massive interior disruptor from Washington.

These additions are part of what Board Chairman Cody Campbell calls a "commitment to building a dynasty" in Lubbock, ensuring the Red Raiders remain at the top of the Big 12.

Basketball: McCasland’s New-Look Roster

On the hardwood, Grant McCasland has been equally aggressive in the portal to maintain the momentum from last season’s Elite Eight run.

LeJuan Watts (Washington State): Widely considered the "most important" addition, Watts is a do-it-all wing who averaged 13.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists last season. He is expected to fill the void left by Darrion Williams (who transferred to NC State).

Josiah Moseley (Villanova): A 6'8" forward and Texas native who brings high-major experience back to his home state.

Frontcourt Depth: With the departures of Fede Federiko (Texas A&M) and Eemeli Yalaho, Tech landed Luke Bamgboye from VCU and Donovan Atwell from UNC Greensboro to provide length and veteran perimeter shooting.

As noted by voices like Drake Toll—a staple on famous Toll lists—the Red Raiders’ ability to consistently "win" the portal cycle has turned Lubbock into a premier destination for top-tier talent looking for a playoff-ready environment.
