#393 Jake Smith - How He Overcame Red-S to Save His Pro Running Career + Breakthrough 2:09 Marathon at Berlin

On this episode, the boys had on special guest Jake Smith! Jake is a professional runner for Nike out of the UK based out of Cardiff. Jake has an amazing story and we are so grateful he was able to share it with us on this pod.

Early on in his career, Jake running a stunning 60:31 half marathon, making him one of the fastest Brits all time. Shortly after- he found himself training in Uganda with the 5k and 10k world record holder Joshua Cheptegei. Jake had an eating disorder, was training extremely hard, and ended up developing RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport).

He had to completely overhaul everything he knew about fueling and training. It took years of patience and work, but Jake is now healthy and thriving in his new system. He walks us through how he fuels and trains now + recapped his breakthrough performance at Berlin, going sub 2:10 for the first time in the marathon.
