From a Super Beetle in the early '80s to a turbocharged '65 and an award-winning VW Thing, Shane Constantinescu has plenty of stories to tell.

This week on Let's Talk Dubs, Shane joins us to share his journey through the air-cooled Volkswagen world. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and now splitting time between Canada and Las Vegas, he gives us a firsthand look at the differences between the two VW scenes—the cars, the people, and the culture that keeps enthusiasts coming back.

Like many of us, Shane's story includes early builds, raising kids, and a break from the hobby before jumping back in. His return brought turbocharged horsepower and a 2012 PRA championship in his class.

We also get into his custom VW Thing, the "Silver Surfer," and the work Tommy Street put into bringing it together. With its lowered stance, Iozzio Galaxy wheels, safari windshield, and ragtop, this Thing has personality to spare. It caught Andy Finch's eye at One Crazy Weekend 2026, taking home his Spikes Vintage Restoration award.
