UK EVs Get Cheaper Charging, New Road Tax
New UK regulations aim to make electric vehicle charging more accessible and affordable for households without private driveways. Leaseholders are now required to install EV charge points in covered car parks, benefiting renters and flat dwellers. The government is also removing planning permission requirements for pavement charging points, saving drivers application fees. These changes coincide with a new Electric Vehicle Excise Duty, or EV road tax, but the Department for Transport suggests charging an EV at home could still cost as little as two pence per mile. Public charger growth has been notable, particularly outside of London. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander believes these reforms will make switching to electric fairer, easier, and cheaper, improving infrastructure and boosting the British EV industry.
