Two Giraffes Journey to New Home | Leicester News

Two Kordofan giraffes, Eloise and Bonomanzi, embarked on a daring 200-mile journey in a custom-built European transporter to reunite with their new family at Twycross Zoo — the UK’s only habitat for this critically endangered species. Trained with positive reinforcement, they calmly entered the adjustable trailer, which lowered its roof for comfort and raised it for safety during transit. This move supports a vital European conservation program aiming to preserve genetic diversity and safeguard the species’ future. The giraffes have settled peacefully with the existing herd, and visitors will soon be able to witness all five together — a powerful reminder of how dedicated logistics and compassion can protect wildlife one step at a time.
