Man with Schizophrenia Sentenced for Mother's Murder
A man with schizophrenia, Daniel Cook, is sentenced to life in prison for killing his mother, Ellen Cook, in Leicestershire. Cook, 39, attacked his 72-year-old mother at their home, resulting in her death. Despite pleading guilty to manslaughter, he was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years. However, due to a hybrid order under the Mental Health Act, Cook will first remain in a hospital until deemed fit for prison. The attack followed a history of mental health issues, including a previous hospitalization for psychosis and a belief that his mother was a witch. Cook had stopped attending appointments and taking his medication before the incident. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network. Every city. Every story. AI powered.
