Despite her initial reluctance, she reported him to Leicestershire Police, leading to his conviction in absentia. Thompsons barrister initially sought to delay sentencing, but he dropped his appeal after the judge warned of a longer sentence if the victim had to testify again. Thompson sent up to forty-five abusive messages a day, causing the victim to feel worthless and affecting her mental health.
