Cleaning the Welland River Responsibly | Leicester News

Six hundred locals are demanding a cleanup of the River Welland in Market Harborough, but with a crucial caveat: don’t wreck the wildlife. Residents want to banish litter and abandoned trolleys for a tidier town center — yet they’re urging caution to protect the river’s delicate ecosystem teeming with birds, insects, and fish. The council vows to support eco-friendly efforts, while the Environment Agency admits they’re stretched thin, focused on flood control amid record weed growth. This is a community rallying cry — passionate, practical, and painfully aware that beauty and biodiversity must coexist.
