BoFA #48 — Social Media: More Dangerous Than AI? Expose the Narcissist with Micah Ellars

Everyone's worried about artificial intelligence taking over humanity. But what if the more dangerous experiment has already been running for years, right under our noses?

What happens when social media gives a false persona a place to live, grow, and become more convincing than the real person behind it?

This Friday, filmmaker, acting coach, and inner work teacher Micah Ellars returns to Beth of Fresh Air for Part Two of Expose the Narcissist, where we're going deeper into narcissistic personality disorder and the extraordinary power of social media to amplify it.

Online personas, dating apps, curated identities, manufactured empathy, and the endless performance of being someone we're not have created a world where people can hide from one another so effectively that they eventually hide from themselves.

And for someone with extreme narcissistic patterns, that can be especially dangerous.

What happens when the performance becomes so convincing that the performer believes it? When kindness and empathy become part of a carefully maintained character? When an entire false self-concept is reinforced by an audience, until reality itself has to bend to accommodate the illusion?

We'll explore how social media can become a kind of Matrix overlay, where image replaces substance, perception becomes currency, and the need for attention and validation keeps the machinery running.

We'll also examine the dark side of learning to recognize narcissism. While awareness can help us identify destructive patterns, indiscriminate labeling can backfire, turning everyone into a suspected narcissist while obscuring the more serious dynamics we need to understand.

And we'll ask some uncomfortable questions.

Why do some people seem to require a constant supply of attention, admiration, or emotional reactions from others? Why is it so difficult for empathetic people to comprehend the apparent heartlessness of certain behaviours? What happens when we assume everyone possesses the same capacity for empathy and conscience?

Then we'll take the conversation beyond the individual.

What if the modern corporation operates according to a similar pattern, constructing an attractive public personality while depending on a continuous supply of human attention, energy, and resources?

Machines need supply, too.

And if artificial intelligence is the technological threat everyone fears, could social media's influence on identity, relationships, empathy, and consciousness already be doing exponentially greater damage?

Join Micah and me as we follow these questions into the architecture of the False Self, the psychology of social media, and the increasingly blurred boundary between human beings and the characters they've created.

How much of the person you're interacting with is actually THERE?

And how would you know?

If we're just meeting...

I’m Beth Martens—founder of the House of Free Will, pattern hunter, archetype reader, podcaster, author, coach trainer, and business coach. My calling has truly been a life-or-death matter. After a decade as a corporate VP in my family’s firm, eight transformative trips to India, and a three-year battle with cancer nearly 25 years ago, I turned to archetypes and deep deprogramming work to save my life.

Despite doing everything wrong based on limited health knowledge, I accessed the hidden inner roots of what was keeping me sick, stuck, and unconscious. Letting those patterns go changed everything. I went from dying to living almost overnight.

Today, I help people who love truth more than their beliefs—people who want to serve with their life’s work and walk their Hero’s Journey—to deprogram the beast system from within and stop unconsciously feeding the forces that harm us.
