Prince Andrew And The Warning Before He Sat Down With Emily Maitlis (10/23/25)
Before sitting down for his now-infamous BBC Newsnight interview, Prince Andrew was explicitly warned by his senior advisers not to go through with it. His newly hired PR consultant, Jason Stein, reportedly told the Duke that appearing on camera to discuss his ties to Jeffrey Epstein was “not just risky — it’s a terrible idea.” Stein believed the interview could permanently damage the monarchy’s reputation, but Andrew, confident in his ability to “set the record straight,” refused to listen. Stein resigned shortly before the interview aired, allegedly telling colleagues that it was career suicide to be associated with what he saw coming. Other palace insiders, including senior aides and communications staff, reportedly pleaded with Andrew to reconsider, warning that no amount of media control could save him if the interview went sideways. Their fears were justified. Within 48 hours of the broadcast, public outrage exploded, sponsors and charities cut ties, and Andrew’s royal duties were suspended indefinitely. Internal memos later revealed advisers viewed his reputation as “irrecoverable,” calling the decision to ignore repeated warnings one of the worst PR miscalculations in royal history. to contact me: [email protected]
