Ghislaine Maxwell And Cloak Of Anonymity She Requested For Her Witnesses (10/28/25)
Judge Nathan denied Maxwell’s defense motion to allow several of its anticipated witnesses to testify under pseudonyms or anonymously. The defense argued that due to the massive publicity surrounding the case, the witnesses would face harassment or reluctance to testify unless protections were granted. However, Nathan found that the request was “unprecedented” for defense witnesses and did not meet the strict standards courts have traditionally required for anonymity. She emphasized that while victim-witnesses in sexual-abuse cases may be permitted to use pseudonyms, the defense witnesses Mcould not claim the same entitlement because they were expected to deny or contradict allegations rather than act as protected victims. Furthermore, the judge ruled that the generalized possibility of harassment or publicity—even in high-profile cases—does not justify anonymity. She highlighted that the defense had not shown specific, credible threats or a compelling risk of witness intimidation that would justify departing from standard transparency of witness identities. Consequently, the defense must present their witnesses under normal conditions, without pseudonyms or shielded identities. to contact me: [email protected]
