Israel Today: Ongoing War Report - September 16, 2026, 02 PM Eastern

We begin with reports suggesting Russian spy satellites aided Iran's strikes on US bases in the region. In Lebanon, the battle for Ali Taher Ridge is described as exceptionally complex, with Iran contributing technologically. Meanwhile, Houthi advances in the Red Sea are prompting Saudi Arabia to consider closer security ties with Israel, even as Eilat Port faces unprofitability due to disruptions. Domestically, President Isaac Herzog urges calm ahead of elections, discusses legal oversight of military operations, and reveals a mediation proposal for Prime Minister Netanyahu's trial. Also, new proposed laws aim to increase penalties for those slandering the IDF. In Gaza, the IDF eliminated a Hamas Nukhba commander involved in the October 7th attacks. And a poll reveals significant views on Israel's right to exist among West Bank Palestinians. Finally, Israeli-Canadian Benjamin Hassin has been released from an Iraqi prison after 11 years.
