Bernie Collins in studio | A life in Formula 1, what makes & breaks race strategy, the future of the sport

From Maguiresbridge in County Fermanagh to the high-pressure pit walls of Formula 1, Bernie Collins took the road less travelled. A maths and physics standout who studied engineering at Queen’s University Belfast, she rose through the ranks at McLaren, before becoming Head of Race Strategy at Aston Martin. In this episode, Bernie reflects on walking away from the sport at the peak of her powers in 2022 to seek a better life balance, before becoming one of Sky Sports’ most respected and popular analysts. She breaks down the hidden world of race strategy, tyre degradation, safety cars, weather swings, driver psychology, and the pressure of making the right call in real time.
