Ward Considers Retirement Over Head Injuries | Indianapolis Colts News

Colts cornerback Charvarius Ward is seriously considering retirement after the 2025 season, especially if he takes another hard hit to the head. He wore a Guardian Cap in his first game against the Ravens—not just because it felt good during warmups, but because he was genuinely scared of getting knocked out again. He’s not sure if the cap made a difference, but with a headache lingering and knowing football’s risks, he’s weighing his future. The NFL’s stance on these caps has evolved from practice-only to occasional game use, despite their bulky look and uncertain effectiveness against big impacts. Still, if Ward believes it could be the line between playing on or walking away, the league can’t stop him—because in a sport that risks your brain, every extra layer of protection matters.
