The citizen sleuth investigating cold cases: Karina Berger Pt. 1

Former solicitor Karina Berger walked away from the law to become the researcher and producer behind Australia's biggest true crime investigations with investigative journalist Hedley Thomas, including Bronwyn and The Poisoned Wife.

In Part 1 of this interview, Gary Jubelin sits down with Karina to unpack how legal analysis and investigative journalism collide to crack cold cases — from a suitcase of documents to the painstaking work of uncovering facts that force police to reopen cases.

In this episode:

• Why Karina left law to hunt the truth in cold cases

• Inside the research behind The Poisoned Wife investigation

• How podcasts are forcing the system to revisit unsolved deaths

• What it really takes to turn boxes of files into evidence
