A locked suitcase, Strychnine poison, and the unsolved death of Rosslyn McQueen: Karina Berger Pt. 2

Rosslyn McQueen was 30 years old, 22 weeks pregnant, and found dead on a kitchen chair in her rural Victoria home in April 1986. No police investigation was conducted at the scene. Her death was written off as natural causes.

Three months later, toxicology came back. She had died from a fatal dose of strychnine. Gary Jubelin sits down with solicitor turned citizen sleuth Karina Berger, the researcher behind The Poisoned Wife with investigative journalist Hedley Thomas to walk through how a case collapses when the first 48 hours are lost, and how investigative podcasting is now dragging it back into the light.

In this Episode:

• Why the GP's refusal to issue a death certificate triggered the autopsy that cracked the cause of death
• What a coronial inquest found in 1987 — and why the trial that followed was discontinued
• The husband's claims about Rosslyn’s health, and what the records actually showed
• How former private investigator Rex Bakes ended up sending Hedley Thomas a padlocked suitcase of documents
• What new information the podcast has already generated, and what a police reinvestigation would take
