The Real Cuban Story W/ Kiele

Nelson, he invites Kiele, a passionate social activist who sheds light on the pressing issues in Cuba. They delve into personal family narratives, with Kiele drawing a poignant contrast between the lives of her two grandmothers: one who experienced the American dream after migrating to the U.S., and the other who faced the stark realities of staying in Cuba. Nelson shares a heart-wrenching tale of his uncle's perilous journey on a raft to the U.S., tragically getting lost at sea. The episode also critiques the American academia's romanticized view of communism, emphasizing that many have never lived under such a regime. While the duo jests about the dire nutrition and hygiene situation in Cuba, they underscore the seriousness of these degrading issues that Cubans grapple with daily. Kiele's unwavering commitment to her cause, despite seemingly insurmountable odds, stands out prominently. Her firm principles and dedication to the fight for freedom resonate deeply.
