Matthew Farwell Looked Up WHAT Eight Days Later?!

An FBI examiner testified that an iPhone linked to Matthew Farwell searched for Massachusetts consent law and deleted-message recovery on February 9, 2021. That was eight days after Sandra Birchmore died. The searches entered the record as federal prosecutors argued that Farwell killed Sandra and made her death appear self-inflicted.

Farwell has pleaded not guilty. His defense argues that Sandra took her own life. The jury is hearing digital evidence alongside the earlier police investigation and the surveillance timeline from the night of her death. A recorded search can help reconstruct someone’s interests. It cannot, by itself, settle who caused a death.

Tony Brueski and criminal defense lawyer Bob Motta also address the officers named in Sandra’s family’s civil litigation. William Farwell, Matthew’s twin brother, and former Stoughton deputy chief Robert Devine were both accused of inappropriate conduct involving Sandra. Both have been part of the broader public scrutiny of the department. Civil claims and disciplinary action are legally different from proof that someone participated in a killing.

The original investigation is another flashpoint. Sandra’s death was initially treated as suicide before the federal case. FBI Special Agent Heidi Kelsch testified that her inquiry began in October 2023 as a civil rights investigation and shifted toward an alleged killing of a potential witness.
