Matthew Farwell Got His Phone Back After WHAT Search?!

Matthew Farwell’s phone was handed back after a State Police examiner searched for Sandra Birchmore’s number and found no messages. Nicholas Guarino described that February 9, 2021 extraction under oath. He also testified that a password on Sandra’s DoorDash account, “mfarwell1,” allowed police to access her laptop.

The FBI later found roughly 24,000 communications between Farwell and Birchmore on Sandra’s devices. Prosecutors allege Farwell deleted his messages following his first police interview. The phone the state returned is no longer in State Police possession, making the decisions about how it was searched and preserved a critical part of the debate.

Tony Brueski and criminal defense attorney Bob Motta ask what a limited extraction could establish and what it could miss. Guarino faced defense questions about an earlier laptop extraction that was not kept, a watch that could not be extracted, and lost files from a failed external hard drive. He denied deliberately hiding evidence and said he approached the investigation as a suicide case.

Robert Devine, a former Stoughton deputy chief associated with the youth program, denies misconduct allegations. At his disciplinary hearing, Devine’s attorney accused Sandra of lying. That is a legal position, not a finding about Sandra’s honesty. Farwell has pleaded not guilty to the federal charges, and the jury must weigh the evidence against his defense’s account of her death.
