What Does It Cost to Follow Jesus? (Matthew 7:13-14) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
In this Good News Friday episode I share updates from my week and talk about the cost of following Jesus. The narrow road is not crowded, and choosing it can feel lonely at times. I also share a testimony from my daughter Addy from the mission field. "For the gate is narrow and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matthew 7:14) Questions this episode answers What is the narrow road in the Bible? Jesus describes a narrow gate and a narrow way that lead to life, and He says few find it (Matthew 7:13-14). It is the path of following Him rather than going along with the crowd. What does it cost to follow Jesus? Jesus said anyone who follows Him must deny himself and take up his cross daily (Luke 9:23). It can cost comfort, approval, or our own plans, but He is worth it. Why does following Jesus sometimes feel lonely? The way is narrow, so not everyone around us will choose it. God gives us His presence and the church family so we do not walk it alone. Links Walking the Appian Way and visiting the catacombs bring the cost of following Jesus to life, and our November Bible Study Live trip to Rome is a powerful way to see it. Bible Study Live is a small-group Bible study trip with Rachael Groll. Study Scripture where it happened in Rome, or slow down for a contemplative Bible study retreat in Maui.
