Where Is God in My Ordinary Everyday Life? (John 21:1-14) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

In this contemplative prayer episode we reflect on the moment Jesus met His disciples on the shore and made breakfast for them. There was no spotlight, just Jesus meeting His friends in the middle of routine. If life has felt repetitive or quiet, this episode will help you slow down and notice His presence in ordinary places. "Jesus said to them, 'Come and have breakfast.' None of the disciples ventured to question Him, 'Who are You?' knowing that it was the Lord." (John 21:12) Questions this episode answers What happened in John 21:1-14? After the resurrection, several disciples went fishing and caught nothing all night. Jesus called from the shore, told them where to cast the net, and they hauled in 153 fish. Then He served them breakfast of bread and fish over a charcoal fire. How does God show up in ordinary life? John 21 shows Jesus meeting His friends during a normal workday, not a big event. God is present in routines like cooking, working, and caring for family. Learning to notice Him there is a big part of growing in faith. How can I notice God's presence in daily life? Slow down and pay attention, maybe with a short pause for prayer a few times a day. Ask yourself, 'Where did I see God today?' Over time you will start to recognize Him in places you used to overlook. Links Peter was in that boat, and on our Rome trip every November we visit places tied to his story and the early church, like the Mamertine prison and the catacombs.
