How Does the Holy Spirit Empower Us Today? (Acts 2:1-4) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

In this final episode of our Living the Resurrection Life series, we reflect on Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Resurrection story does not end at Easter. Today I invite you into contemplative prayer as we consider how God wants to fill and empower you to live fully in His strength and for His purposes. "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance." (Acts 2:4) Questions this episode answers What happened at Pentecost? On the day of Pentecost the disciples were gathered together when the Holy Spirit came with a sound like a rushing wind and tongues as of fire. They were filled with the Spirit and began to speak in other languages. Peter preached, and about three thousand people came to faith that day. Is the Holy Spirit still at work today? Yes. The same Spirit who filled the early church lives in every believer (Romans 8:11). He guides, comforts, and empowers us to follow Jesus. How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit? Ephesians 5:18 tells believers to keep being filled with the Spirit. We do this by surrendering to Him, staying in God's Word, and asking Him in prayer to lead us each day. Links The Spirit who filled the early church carried the gospel all the way to Rome, and on our Rome trip each November we visit the catacombs and the Appian Way where those first believers lived out their faith.
