How Do I Bring Hard Emotions to God Through Lament? (Psalm 3) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

In this episode we look at Psalm 3, one of the many lament psalms in Scripture. We talk about how lament teaches us to hand God the things we can't carry on our own, and how He steps in as our shield so we can rest in Him. "But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head." (Psalm 3:3) Questions this episode answers What is a lament psalm? A lament is a prayer that brings pain, fear, or grief straight to God. Lament psalms usually move from complaint to trust and end with confidence in God's help. They show us it is okay to bring hard emotions to the Lord. What does it mean that God is a shield? In Psalm 3, David is surrounded by enemies, yet he calls God a shield about him. It means God surrounds and protects His people. Even when trouble is real, we can lie down and rest because He is guarding us. How can I bring difficult emotions to Jesus? Start by naming what you feel in prayer, the way David does. Then remind yourself of who God is and what He has promised. Lament is not a lack of faith. It is faith that keeps talking to God in the hard places.
