How Was Jesus Proclaimed King Before He Was Born? (Psalm 2) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Today we study Psalm 2, the first of the Messianic Psalms. We see Jesus proclaimed King long before He was born, and we notice how God speaks in the language of the people He is addressing. It is a beautiful picture of a God who pursues His people right where they are. "I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.'" (Psalm 2:7) Questions this episode answers What is a Messianic Psalm? A Messianic Psalm is a psalm that points forward to the Messiah, Jesus. Psalm 2 speaks of God's anointed King and His Son, and the New Testament applies these words to Jesus in Acts 13:33 and Hebrews 1:5. How does Psalm 2 point to Jesus? Psalm 2 describes the nations raging against the Lord and His Anointed while God installs His King on Zion. The early church prayed this psalm in Acts 4 when they faced opposition. It shows that Jesus' reign was God's plan all along. What does Psalm 2 teach about how God pursues people? God speaks to rebellious kings in words they would understand, and then He invites them to take refuge in His Son. Even His warnings come with an invitation. He meets people where they are and calls them home.
