Is Sickness Always Caused by Sin? (Psalm 38) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
There's a real debate in the church today. Some believe sickness is always a result of sin, and others believe it can come simply because we live in a fallen world. Today we look at David's situation in Psalm 38 and ask what Scripture actually says. "Do not forsake me, O LORD; O my God, do not be far from me! Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!" (Psalm 38:21-22) Questions this episode answers Is all sickness caused by sin? No. In Psalm 38 David connects his own suffering to his sin, but Scripture doesn't make that a rule for everyone. In John 9:1-3, Jesus says a man's blindness was not caused by his sin or his parents' sin. Much sickness comes from living in a broken world. What should I do if I think my sin is affecting me? Do what David did and bring it openly to God. Psalm 38:18 shows him confessing his sin, and 1 John 1:9 promises that God forgives when we confess. Then lean on Him for help and healing.
