Many of us have faced moments when we were scared and up against something bigger than ourselves. Today in Psalm 120 we look at a model of prayer for those very moments. Walking with God through hard times builds a confidence in Him that carries us into the next one. "In my trouble I cried to the LORD, And He answered me." (Psalm 120:1) Questions this episode answers What is Psalm 120 about? Psalm 120 is the first of the songs of ascents. The psalmist cries out to God in distress, troubled by lying lips and by living among people who hate peace. It opens with the simple confidence that God answers when we call. What should I do when I feel surrounded by conflict? Psalm 120 shows us to bring it straight to God in honest prayer. The psalmist names his trouble and asks God to deliver him, while still choosing to be a person of peace. We can do the same and trust God to answer. Why does God let us go through scary seasons? Scripture does not explain every hardship, but it does show that God is present in them. Each time we call on Him and see His faithfulness, our trust grows for the next challenge (James 1:2-4).
