Why Is Psalm 119 the Longest Chapter in the Bible? (Psalm 119) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
Today we study Psalm 119, the longest psalm and the longest chapter in the Bible. We look at how carefully the psalmist planned each stanza and how God's law reveals His character. Along the way, we see why we need Jesus. "Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You." (Psalm 119:11) Questions this episode answers Why is Psalm 119 structured the way it is? Psalm 119 is an acrostic with 22 stanzas, one for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Each stanza has eight verses that begin with the same letter. This careful design celebrates God's Word from start to finish. How does God's law point us to Jesus? God's law shows us His holy character and how far short we fall. That shows our need for a Savior. Jesus perfectly fulfilled the law and offers us His righteousness by grace (Matthew 5:17, Romans 3:21-24). What does it mean to hide God's Word in my heart? It means treasuring Scripture so deeply that it shapes how we think and choose. Reading, memorizing, and meditating on God's Word helps us recognize His voice and resist sin.
